Hunting Around the Lake Spot 2 (visit 2)

Went back to spot 2. It has been raining all week and the lake levels are rising. Lake I am working is about a foot over it's normal level. More rain coming this week. I got home from work late and only spent about an hour digging before dark. Found $1.72 in clad and two more silver rings Bottom is clay with a little sand over it. I have an old stainless scoop with a galvanized pipe handle that I hauled out for the day. It worked so much better than my all stainless scoop. The weight of the pipe handle lets the scoop really cut through the clay. I use a floating screen so that I do not have to mash the clay out of the scoop. I just dump it in the screen and break it apart. I wave the pieces past the coil until I find the one the target is in. Sounds like this takes a lot of time, but so far it is the fastest way I have found to work the clay bottom without scuba. When I dive, I use a three pronged weeder and scrape the bottom until the target moves. Then it is a matter of picking it up.

kman..Nice finds....I hear ya about the rain and mud.... went to a park at a NTex lake and the level was up and the bottom was very difficult to penetrate due to the clay... I'm envious of the beach hunters who just have the sand to sift thru!...Makes those finds a bit easier!!!

I like those rings. You have some good hunting ground there. Hope the water levels come down some for you. Eventually they will.

Clay bottom is not so bad. It holds things and they don't sink beyond detection depth like they can in deep sand.
Cheers,
tvr
