I was wondering how long do you guys stay at and area if you are not finding anything?
I am hunting old beaches on land and I cant find any sliver. They were hit hard but I thought that the etrac would find something.I am spending 2-3hrs. ay each sight
I am new to this machine and I just have it in factory preset Is there anthor adjust I should make (espically to to be able sliver next oto iron) or just leave it in factory preset

Tough question about how long you stay at a site where you're not finding anything. I take a lot of factors into account: what I know about the site's history, the condition of the soil, and what metal detecting activity may have occurred there. If it's a park that used to be a fairgrounds but has had a lot of earthmoving and been heavily detected, I probably won't spend more than a 1-2 hours there if I am finding nothing. Deep 12" memorial cents and screw caps really turn me off quick. It's just a decision you need to make with your gut. If it's not fun, move on try it again another day.

The E-Trac was finding silver right out of the box, but in my area to maximize deep targets I run manual sensitivity high. It's not for everyone, but it is producing results for me.

I tend to follow the research theory. If a place is totally full of Iron and I am not finding anything I still stay there a good 4 to 5 hours if I feel there is reason to believe something could be there. If there was not any reason to think this I usually don't go to that site anyways. I find that I try to hunt sites in my area that date back at least to 1900 or before. This always allows me to dig a few old wheats at least. I go so slow that a one hour hunt is not very productive to me. I take my time and listen for the deep faint stuff and this seems to be good for around my area.

The E-trac has found me silver out of the box with factory settings. I am starting to tweak these now that I understand the machine a little better but I found 13 silver in the first month of owning the E-trac and it is my first machine I have ever used. Seated, barbers, mercs, walking liberties and rosies, this machine is a silver magnet. The X-1 probe is well worth every penny it costs for the E-trac also.

I research to find any evidence of human activity in the last couple of hundred years. If there is, I hunt like there is no tomorrow.

If I hit nothing but junk, I know that back fill has taken place and that it is probable not to find anything of value. I usually spend just a few hours until I give up.

I have hit several old areas that gave up some really good finds and they usually had very little trash in them. The really trashy areas with things like modern copper fittings, modern cans, pop tops and other trash, then I know that it has probably been back filled and most of the really old stuff will be buried far below where I can find them.

We might as well face the fact that in many instances, historic areas have been bull dozed and back filled never to be able to be a good area to detect ever again or until the area is excavated again.

The trick is to find the virgin old areas that are as close to as they were from pre 1965 to several hundred years ago where civil war relics or silver and gold can be found.

Of course, the beaches are a different story. I prefer water hunting instead of dry sand hunting. Most of the really good salt water beach finds will be in the wet areas. Yeah, dry sand will yield some good ones too. But not as many as in the water.

The E-trac is not a magic machine. Yes it will find things but it will take time to learn it. Out of the box, the E-trac will put you on par with others with more time on their older machines. In time, your experience with the E-trac will surpass any abilities of the competition to find with their older machines.
