Found a sailboat on the beach. it is stamped sterling and the jewelry marked Lang. it`s some type of brooch or pin.my big question is when did they stop stamping sterling and start stamping .925?

Very nice find and I don't think they ever stopped marking "sterling". I think either "sterling" or .925 can be used interchangeably since they mean the same thing.

Love the sail boat brooch Tom. Congrats.

I believe 1906 is when they started stamping "sterling" and .925 on any precious silver. Same with stamping KT purity on gold too. Don't quote me though. HH, Nancy

Lang Jewelry co.Providence R.I. started making stuff april of 1946 Cool find!!

Nancy thanks for the information and everyone else. I had little luck with me that day a.k.a. "McLucky".
