Hunting a skirmish site

The ground was still pretty wet, but the temperature was nice, so my pal Matt and I set out to hunt more of a local skirmish site. The finds have petered out a bit, but we still managed to recover around a dozen pieces. Matt was using his new CTX for the first time. He pulled a shot .32 ball; a case shot lead ball, part of a spherical shell, two horseshoes, and some old iron. I managed two case shot balls, one fired .50 or .54 round ball, and a brass rivet. Had fun, got some sun, and pulled some 150-year-old treats from the dirt. Please enjoy the video.

Good job. Commented on yt channel. CCH

Nice recoveries. Is the large lead piece in the upper right a piece of sabot? I've found several pieces recently that look like that.

Yes! It is a Hotchkiss sabot. I examined it, and it has rifle marks from the barrel of the cannon. Thanks for prodding me to look further.
