Hunted the beach with some advice from the forum.

Well I have been using the 3030 on and off on the beach( 150hrs) with mixed results. Yesterday was the 3rd gold ring for the 3030. I played around and used Ground coin, fast on, deep off, and a gain of 20, auto plus 2. I do hunt in combined tone with a FE line of 24 open screen.
What this seemed to do is allow for deeper targets to have less strenght. I had to settel on a prety slow coil speed but if you tipped a target it would catch it. I did have a target that both toned high and burpped low. I dug it to find a iron nail with a aluminum sheetmetal washer attached.
This was a good indication of target seperation the machine has. The hunt produced 39 coins 24 were pennies, lots of light trash, the watch was lost before daylight savings, and was three scoops to recover. The 10k girls HS Ring. The ring was really only the dry sand find but was on the hight tide mark that had dried in the last 6 hrs. I really stumbled on it. I was doing something to adjust the finds pouch and turned around and put the coil down. It beeped and the meter showed 12-02 I remember saying ya right. I rescanned the target and it settled in at 12-03. While I have come to like this tdi area. I will note that those little round aluminum drink tops hit at these same 2 numbers. Trick I have found thus far is when pin pointing the tone will not have the strenght if its trash as if its a solid target. It will just sound weak, and has been 100 % correct so far.I still dig all of them anyways!
The ring is working its way back to the owner it may take a few extra steps as it only has her first name. I am pretty sure it was a really fresh drop.
Thanks to those pointers from other users and I hope something I post helps others aswell.

That's quite a load of finds - gold too! Are you comfortable that you have the falsing problem from the waves solved or managable? You must have your system to scoop your targets in the water figured out, too. I'm still finding I have to work pretty hard to get the target in the scoop if I'm in water deep enough that I can't see the coil on the bottom.

I think I caused the falsing I was using both deep on and a gain too high! I think its one or the other. I seem to like the ground coin mode. I started out the first 20 hrs with PP normal then I thought I liked PP sizing and for the last 50 hrs I have used PP normal again. I think this is a winner. The trick is to be pretty sure where the target is then normal will find it quickly. If you fail start over. If your really deep water take your time and it will chirp like a bird and it's right on. Maybe with time it will become second nature to PP. As of now its certainly NOT a fast target recovery machine for beach hunting for me.The beach environment where we tend to recover 200 plus targets a hunt , 30 seconds to 1 minute recoveries don't fit my style. I enjoy 10 to 15 seconds better. In all the beach hunting I have done I think 80 coins was a best day so far. During the real hunting season (Oct -Mar) I have had 300 coin days. I better get better at PP or the 3030 is going to be a snow bird.LOL!

I can see where PP normal would work better in the water - I didn't think of that. I like PP sizing on land, though. I like to try to eliminate as many oversized junk items as possible. Digging 300 items a day would be pretty awesome. That might work for me if I paid some kid to do the digging and scooping. Of course, after he dug up the first gold ring he would probably want to renegotiate his wages.

No diging 300 coins a hunt some times there 200 trash targets with them! One of our JSBSH FB hunters here in NJ dug 579 coins in 8hrs two weeks ago with his elderly father having 181 of them! Really good coin count for a older guy!

Wow! That's over 1 coin every minute. How can you find a spot that even has that many coins? Maybe an old wishing well? ha ha. That's my dream coin spot. An old wishing pond that nobody ever detected before. I think I would get arrested if I went down to the mall with my detector and started pulling coins out of the fountains.
