Hunted Out Or Hardly Hunted? Which Kind Of Mindset Do You Have?

Critter,I will search heavy hunted sites for convenience, close to home,or I just like the park.Hunted out sites for me have been a proving ground, compare different equipment, ie metal detectors and coils. No such thing as a hunted out site, but don't let these places get you bogged down from looking for new sites. We all have a comfort zone or get like Pavla's dog, sometimes the grass is greener on the other side. Thanks Ron

Critter i live on land that goes back to 1640 first settled my home is 123 years old i have hunted these few acres my home sits on over 3 years now every time i want to try a new machine or setting or coil i manage to find another coin or two or even a very old bronze buckle,s some dating back to the 17th century my oldest coin found here is silver 1760 French Pau King Louis XV after doing a rototiller 12 inches deep for a tomato garden i ran my detector over the area , so IMO a site is never hunted out even modern school yards that are only 60 or 70 years old i call the 3 local high schools here endless pits of coins no mater how many times we hunt a certain area we find coins clad or silver even rings . Keep hitting those sites . Jim

Wow, great finds. Wish I lived on property like that to hunt any time I wanted but didn't have the gas money to travel elsewhere.

In my neck of the woods it's rare to find a hardly hunted spot to hunt. I go in with the mindset that it's already been hunted hard and it won't give up much. I always think quality not quanity. You will know soon enough which one it is. All my recent finds are from a hard hunted spot and I love the feeling that you get when pull another keeper from a "hunted out" spot.
Good luck Gary

Mate, if you go in with the hunted out mind set, you may as well hang the detector on the wall and take up golf

I have been to local parks that I would have thought were hunted out and pulled old coins. I also hit the beach a lot and when I see someone new on my favourite beach first thing I do is check out there style.
I have seen detectors being swung like a brush cutter with the ends of the sweep lifting in the air, or people waving the coil a foot of the ground and wondering why they dont find any thing.
I had one fella tell me the beach I normally hunt was a waste of time as nothing is lost there!

Go low and slow, work a section of a park instead of trying to cover the whole park in one hunt. and most importantly stay positive,

HH

There is no hunted out for the most part. Dig a site like mad until you can't find a thing, come back to the same spot 2 years later and you find old coins again. Private yards...yes I have hunted out one or two, mostly because the coins were shallow. For deeper coins their ability to be detected can change due to moisture, soil density, temperature, etc.
