Hunted new spot today: 3 hours, 4 silver, 7 wheats, military pin, silvers #103-106 for year

Hi Gang:

Gave the little park a rest today and went to a new spot where my buddy Josh has been doing very well.

Hunted 3 hours and pulled 42 coins including 4 silvers (1944 Washington quarter, 1935-D mercury dime, and 1952-d and 1958 rosie dimes), 7 wheats and a U.S. military collar pin (my 2nd one).

That makes 33 silver and 113 wheats for August and 106 silver and 362 wheaties for the year.

This spot should provide many many hours of hunting and if I had to guess, I'd say there could be a couple of hundred silvers on this site, based on what had been dug so far and the area covered.

As far as I know, there are 3 of us hunting this site and Josh is keeping track of everything found by the group.

Stay tuned ...

Congrats wtg

I don't grid, just wander :) - check out this vid we made today of Josh digging a silver quarter. Josh is still fairly new and asked me to run the CTX over a hit he got. I scanned and told him "It's a silver quarter at 7" deep, give me your phone" and started taping:

Congrats, Tony. But, I'm not going to catch you at this rate. I've found 11 dimes in the last four days and am up to 66 silvers, but it seems like you keep pulling away. Maybe you could put me on that spot and just watch and be my tutor!! Ha.

You are also having a excellent year Mike. Is this your best year?

Mike, when I got the CTX April 1st I set a goal of 50 silver and 150 wheats. I have revised my goal a few times and my new goal is 200 silver and 600 wheats for the year. Not sure if I will get there, but I'm going to try.

As far as my totals, don't forget that I am retired and I have been hunting 45-55 hours/month.

I have found 2464 coins this year in 236.25 hours this year.

Complement Josh on his excellent find and plug! Are you serious about not gridding? I used to be a wanderer and only found clad. Only when I began to grid did my keepers begin to come. The parks you guys hunt are indeed special. I hunt an old park from 1903 and only have about six silvers, a dozen Indians, lots of wheats and a a half dozen rings over the past three years. I can't understand why the silver is not popping out of the ground. I rarely see other detectorists so don't think it has been hunted out.
In any event, keep up the great hunting.
Chuck

This is my second full year detecting and only the first where I've found any silver. So, I'm very pleased with where I'm at. I'm also retired and I get out....usually....3 or 4 times a week. That'll drop off to about once a week, here in a few days, if I'm lucky. I'd love to get to 100, but my goal was 50 and that was an accomplishment for me. If I set a new goal, I'll fret and worry trying to get to it, so I'm just hunting now. Sure would like to find another half and a SLQ this year though. We'll see. I keep records of my finds, also, but not as meticulous as yours. For example, last year when I was using a White's DFX, I had 24 nickels for the entire year. This year using the E-trac and CTX I've found over 260 nickels including two Vs and two Buffs. Minelabs are deadly on nickels....and just about everything else it seems. Congrats again on your finds.
