HUNTED A PLAYGROUND FOR THREE HOURS TODAY :hot:

Derrelld

Well-known member
You normally wouldn't catch me on a play ground for three hours anywhere... But this one was a little special! The park that this playground is located is right down the road from my house! I have hunted the park many times and I have NEVER FOUND A SILVER COIN HERE BEFORE! This place has been pounded and pounded and pounded some more. Sometimes I would go and hunt for hours and only find a wheaty! The park has never really surrendered any thing extremely old for anyone to my knowledge.. This place was at its prime in 1930 up to present.. The reason I went back today is because my dad works for the city and informed me that Friday they ripped up all the play ground equipment and and scraped up all the loose gravel and put in a huge pile... There was at least a foot of gravel on this playground... And they took her all the way down to the dirt  I couldn't go Saturday because of work, and my grandpa got put in the hospital.. I went in for a little chest pain and found out he has throat cancer, as well as a tumor next to his spine..
So i got up this morning expecting to find a few goodies, and hoping that my buddies had not found out about it  I will tell you right now, I miss my probe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL I hooked on my 10x12 sef an, started the search.. Right away i got a jumpy it.. I dug down and pulled the fist coin of the day... a 1925 wheaty.. I kept on searching and found another wheaty, then another, then another , then another.. pretty soon i had about 10 wheat penny's.. I was happy about them.. but also kinda bummed i hadn't found silver... Soon after i got a sweet sweet hit... Wasn't deep at all... I dug down and hiding only about 2 inches was the first silver of the day.. a 1934 Merc.. That's more like it!!!!!!!! I fumbled more around that particular are and started finding more wheat's.. Then i started pulling older Jefferson nickels.. I new there were some War nickel's and Buffalo's hiding out somewhere.. Pretty soon i got another deep nickel hit.. I dug down and pulled a 1930 Buffalo nickel.. I rechecked the hole and heard something else.. I dug down and got a War nickel. I rechecked again and got another hit... I dug down and pulled another wheat... Then i did another sweep and got a super sweet tone.. Hitting right where a silver quarter should.. I dug down and uncover a 1943S silver quarter... That right there made my day!! i didn't care if a found another coin... I called my dad and asked it he would bring me a shovel.. The gravel that was mixed with the dirt was killing my hand,, plus i was having a heck of a time finding them without my probe.. When he got there i decided to switch up coils as well.. There wasn't much trash.. So i threw in my 12x15 inch MOP lol.
As soon as i started I pulled another war nickel.. I soon could tell this was going to be a little Honey hole :detecting: Walked across to where i first started searching.. I came across a deep signal...I circled it. and circled it again.. It was extremely high but really jumpy! I took my shovel and started making a circle around where i thought the center was... I pulled up the huge plug,, and had a silver quarter staring at me :yikes: I couldn't believe it.. I definitely wasn't expecting that!!! I called my dad back and asked if he would bring my camera down.. i wanted to get a pic of it sticking out if the hole... While i was waiting on him i started sweeping around the edges of the hole.. towards the back of the hole i was getting another faint but consistent signal... I didn't dig right away because i didn't want to mess the hole up to much for the pic.. Well he finally got there.. i took a couple pictured them decided to dig that other signal... I dug a pretty deep hole.. I recheck it with my detector and realized it was out of the hole... I started fumbling around with the dirt trying to locate it when i about fell over... I grabbed a dirt clump and out fell a big silver disk :surprised: I picked up and realized i just found my fist Walking liberty Half!!! I'm pretty excited about this as well guys!!! To end this post... During my adventure on the play ground.. I found 22 wheat penny's, 1 Buffalo nickel 1930, 2 war nickels 1942S and a 1943S, 2 silver Mercs.. a 1934 and a 1944, 2 Silver Washington Quarters 1940 and a 1940S, and a 1940 Walking Liberty Half Dollar!!! Thanks for looking every one!!!! And good luck!!!

Nice hunting Derrell and congratulations on the WL half. I'll bet you are lost without a pinpointer.lol That's why I own more than one.

What a great day.... That is awesome.

Derrelld,

I had the same experience a couple of years ago. Same deal replacing playground equipment. Think I got about a dozen IHs, pile of silver. This is a park that had been hunted hard for years. Don't think the stuff was too deep but was masked by trash. Seems to be true in most locations.

Chris

LOL Thanks Phil!!!!

It's not to bad having one when your field hunting or in a area you can sling dirt around lol

Thanks Bryce :beers:

I think your right Chris
You wouldn't believe how crappy some of the signals were.. And some weren't very deep!!!

Thanks Crow-Duck!!
I hope there are a few more out there!!!

Wow Derrell. What a primo day. Congrats!!!

You definitely deserve it buddy. Love the Walker, they are so fun to find.

I got into a similar deal at an old school building where they pulled up all of the old black top and cracked concrete along the side of the school ... the finds I made were incredible, for around here anyway.

Nice going Derrel :clapping:

Mike

Very nice Derrell.:clapping: That silver was there all the time except that it was out of the reach of your detector from a foot or more of gravel. Hit that place some more as I'm sure there might be some more silver hidden there. Good luck and HH.

Eddie

Thanks Bob!!

Man my fav.. a 50 cent piece........ boy i havent had the chance to say this in a while... Darrell you suck. LOL. Way to clean house. You was out there on a sunny day detecting and my wife had me in a auction till dark. There was a good side.... there was a HUGE amount of coins being sold. Did i get one... nope they were selling way out of sight i thought. Large cents in ok condition were going well over $35. I guess you will have to get out the rain colt for the next few days. HH
