Hunt with Jeff in Pa

Jeff in PA and I met up early this morning for our first hunt together. I decided we would check some places I had not hunted hard. My take from site#1 was one lonely memorial and some type of newer military crest and from site#2 was $1.02, but still only clad. I was feeling badly that our first hunt together was a bust. Leaving site#2, I mentioned that I had received permission from an elderly gentleman to hunt his farm fields, but never asked about hunting the yard of his very old 1800s birck house. We arrived, I knock and got no answer, but I did find 2 cents in the gravel driveway. SCORE!!! ---- LOL! We sat and talked for awhile and driving off I said, "Now that I've knocked on one door, I could do another!" The area we were in was all farm fields with old homes scattered some distance from each other. We passed another older brick home - it appeared that no one was at home so we continued on and came to the next. It looked quiet, but we pulled into the driveway anyway. By now it was almost 10:30. I got out, Jeff offering to come with me and I declined saying, "No, I got this, I don't care anymore. I've already knocked on one." A very nice elderly woman came to the door and I introduced myself telling her that I lived locally and where. I explained that I had a buddy with me and we had the hobby of metal detecting and liked searching the yards of older home for coins. I explained that we were careful and neat with our target retrieval. She said, "Yes, go ahead and asked how long we thought we would be there because she had somewhere to go 2 hours." After relocating where we parked the car, we set out. This spot was a dream!!! With little or no trash signal, we were running in Auto +3 at 27 to 28 sensitivity. Jeff even went back to the car and swapped his 6" coil off for the stock coil. I went around to the front of the house and pulled 2 wheat pennies almost immediately. I picked the wrong side of the front walk as Jeff might just show show you later. After about 2 hours of hunting, our hostess approached me all dressed up to leave for her appointment. She asked and I showed her the 7 wheat pennies I found. She was very pleasant and talked with me for awhile mentioning that her, now deceased, brother-in-law had run a detector in the yard many years ago and she was surprised that he had missed so much. I offered that we would leave if she would feel more comfortable if we weren't there while she was away. She told me that her neighbor would probably be more comfortable. We thanked her very much for her kindness and called it a day. I felt great that I was able to redeem myself as the "leader" of this outing. Jeff owes me the next time!! LOL!!

My finds were 1909, 1911, 1913, 1923, 1938, 1944D and 1954D wheat pennies.
