Well, the wife visited her parents on Sunday, so I went metal detecting!
This is my 4th time visiting our Church, each time delivering silver, this time was no exception.
The amazing part is that there is very little clad in the ground. The Church is Baptist/Congregrational, I believe meaning the two churches combined around the time this church was built. At some point from 1900 and the present, they decided to hold sermons during the summer in their "small church", the original Congregational. This was done because it stayed cooler than the big "new" church, so no social gatherings outside the church after sermons during the summer for quite a while now. As a result, even cherry picking my first three hunts, I found almost no clad, all older stuff.
The fourth hunt was no exception, thought I started digging iffier signals with great luck! Unforunately, one iffy signal turned out to be an on edge 1908 D barber dime that got hit.
You can see the dent on the edge, and the gouge on the back from it. This soil has a layer of roots 4-5" down right where all the coins are turning up. That and the fact this was an iffy signal led me to being careless. I think I'm going to start trying electro shock therapy while digging.
Anyway, enjoy the pics.

[attachment 102129 081708HuntPics2a.jpg]After butchering an 1873 IH from this site last week, I learned my lesson, did some forum searching, and cleaned using peroxide with much better results.
