Hunt #2 With 600 and Some Observations-Questions

First Off, my second hunt with the Nox 600 proved to be better than the first. I felt slightly more comfortable with the sounds and settings, but taking any detector to hard hunted public places can be fruitless. The Nox is a very easy to use detector and a beginner can have immediate success with just the factory programs. I have settled on park one and field one with minor adjustments to iron bias and recovery speed.

I have just about always had an Explorer of some type and wanted Explorer like depth, but Deus like speed. The Nox fits that bill perfectly. Yesterday I purposely hunted a very trashy park. I purposely started the hunt in a spot where I had found many silver and wheat coins. Park one, sens 22, iron bias 0, recovery 1. I found several clad coins in an old drive that is black with slag. I finally got a 24-26 signal and found a wheat from about 6 inches. Two more passes and two more similar wheats. The signals were slightly scratchy, but repeatable. I was impressed, but no silver from here.

I moved to a hill that has steps to about half way down and then grass for the remainder. I have never found much on this hill. No silver and only a couple of wheats. I got a signal in the high 20's and was happy to see a silver signet ring that was 8 inches deep! It is very old and had been there for awhile.

I briefly tried 50 tones and did not like that setup. I started with 5 tones and have become comfortable with them. I guess if I had initially used 50 tones, I might feel different. How many use 50 tones? Since I am new to the Nox, what is the lowest sensitivity setting I can use and still achieve respectable depth? For the Nox 600 users, where do find the best performance with iron bias and recovery settings?

The Equinox 600 has to be the best bang for the buck detector on the market right now. I really like mine and have done quite well with it in a short time. Your soil mineralization will determine your best settings. I run: sensitivity-18, recovery speed-2, tones-5 ( 50 tones works for me as well), iron bias-default. Good luck and Happy Hunting.

I have been using Park 2, sens-20 or higher if not chattering, RS-4, IB-2. My soil is a layer of top soil over ga red clay and that stops most metal from getting to deep. Swing speed increase will get you a vid sometimes on deep whisper targets. HH

I use park2, iron bias 2 , speed 3 with 50 tones with a 6in coil on my 600, yesterday I was out and found a few pennies and other coins and surfboard pendant about 4in deep, then I remembered that I had been doing some indoor testing and had turned the sensitivity down to 10 and forgot to turn it back up, it ran good at 10 but I usually run at 20, so i’m thinking of trying 14/16 next time in trashy parks, most finds in my area are no more than 6in deep anyway.
