How's the X-Terra at sizing targets?

I'm especially interested in being able to tell the difference between aluminum cans/coins at the beach and large canslaw/coins in parks. Is the graphic pinpoint helpful or does most of the sizing ability come from sound(s) and practice?

I would say both, the pinpoint will usually have a tell tell wavering sound when over a piece of can slaw/large foil, or an entire can even when buried deep for the most part. Yesterday I got over a big shallow piece of iron and the detector just went into overload, a few minutes later I found a big piece of brass (car insignia) that was probably 8" deep and sounded great in all metal and in pinpoint. Pinpoint can give you the ability to size up the object such as the iron by just lifting the coil a few inches and tracing the outside edge of whatever your target is.
Hope this helps answer your question.

I especially found that pinpoint was a real asset for determining size on large targets. Like you said, you can sort of "draw" your way around it.

Bob,

I worked a site this week that had a lot of alum cans and found on every signal I got that was louder I just raised the coil and if I could raise it 5 or 6 inches and still was very loud it was a can as the coin size target would make a difference if coil raised that high. Did get fooled by a couple that were over 8 inches deep.

...the really deep ones on the beach. Sometimes I just can't be sure until I remove a lot of sand. Anyway, last time we talked was a few months after the Quattro came out. I resisted and never bought one, but the X-Terra caught me - I have one on the way and hope to be having fun next weekend. -- Bob
