How's the Edge doing??

The Edge was one of the machines on my consideration list for a new detector. I've had the C$ and really liked it. It done extremely well in the ground here. I was considering a Whites DFX, Minelab EX II, and the Edge this go around. I am getting one with my income tax return.

The EX II was what alot of people recommended but now I'm starting to hear they don't work well in iron around here. That's no good if that's true and I've heard it from some pretty reputable people.

So that kind of leaves that one out and puts the DFX and Edge in there. Stastically, the lower frequency VLF machines have done extremely well here. Actually they do better than their high frequency counterparts that will smoke them in good ground.

I'm looking for a machine to relic hunt with as a primary machine and be equally good for coin shooting. Depth...all I ask for is a 8-10 inch machine. Anything better is a plus but the ground here really hurts the detection depth of machines. And it has to work good in iron. Since the programmable DFX is so versitle, and I've been reading about it quite a bit, I am leaning very much towards it now. But Fisher's reputation for doing good here has me not wanting to leave the Edge out.

What do you guys think?

I was leaning between the DFX and a C$, The DFX really turned me off after I started to think about programming it.

Theres nothing like being in a field and carying a notepad with you full of programs and having to go through page after page of stuff to program it.

My C$ everything is right there on the screen, I can see everything I need to know right there and that speeds up things so I have more time to hunt.

Thats just my outlook on it, sorry I didnt post anything about the Edge, the biggest turn off I had with buying the Edge was the fact that it does not have a light on it.

Sorry for the spelling errors as I am sure there are some here, but its 2:40 am here in Iowa where I am at, and I just got home from detecting with a friend. We left at 10:30 to hit some parks, found a couple cool things nothing fancy but lots of clad. Thats one of the reasons why the Edge turned me off, I do ALOT of night time detecting as thats what fits into my schedule.

But I hear alot of positives about the Edge, I am sure tomorrow more people will post about it.

The C$ is an awesome machine no doubt. I really liked mine when I had it. Good enough I got a second one after regretting that I let go of the first one. BUT the problem I have with the C$ around here is the constant addition of high RF power lines and other electrical noise out there. The C$ is probably the most finiky machine when it comes to that stuff of any I've used. High RF power lines will eat one up. You can back the sensitivity way down and the threshold way down below the -35 range but by the time you get it stable you might as well be swinging a wood stick.

I see your point about the DFX. Believe me...I've thought about programming more than once. BUT at the same time that's what attracts me to it. The ability to handle any situation I come across. Bad dirt? 3khz. Decent dirt? 15khz. Big power lines...15khz. I think it would be one of those machines that once you got a feel for it that you could program a few programs and save them...and then that be all you need for your general area. That's how I'm looking at it anyway. On paper it sounds good. In reality it might be a pain in the butt.

Yeah, with the DFX, you need to load your programs at home the night before or something. Then when you get into the field, you just tweak a couple of settings to optimize like any other machine and go hunting. Otherwise you do spend a lot of time making adjustments in the field. One thing I don't like about it is the fuzzy audio when using tone id. Because every VDI number has its own audio tone, its sounds fuzzy on the edges. You miss the nice crisp audio tone id of the other type of machines. At least I do.

I wonder if the Edge has that POWER HUM around the edges of the all metal mode like the CS has. I still dig that

Not to butt into the other guys thread, but what hum does the C$ have? I have yet to actually use mine yet as I am having a problem with the coil cord, but rather then send it in I am just going to do the cord mod to it.

Is this hum going to be real noticable compared to my CZ-7a that I am used to using?

Do you remember how the Light Sabers in the Star Wars movies sound?

My CS's All Metal mode has that humming sound around the edges. Almost subliminal, like it is ready to break out and chop some stuff up. :starwars:

I kind of dig it :hot:

I hear it best with my Timberwolfs.

Happy CoinStriking :detecting:
