Id like to get some different opinions on how the experts would set up the etrac on hunting a new site that was an old baseball park closed for the past 20 years and was opened in the 50's.Fast on or off, deep on or off,auto+3 or manual pro coil or sef?
I'm not an expert by any means. I probably would concur with silvereagle. That is the way I run almost all the time and in Andy's Coin Program. There are times that I do play with iffy signal in 2T Ferrous, if the nails are heavy!
I have a park like that near me that was from the 20's and was undergoing extensive renovations - so no one minded the detecting that was going on.
Now I'm a big proponent of using 2 tone FE in the right spots - it's a setup that continues to deliver for me - time after time.
But in the park using 2 tone FE I just couldn't deal with all those constant high tone (under 18 FE) signals coming from all the aluminum and liquor tops. On the farm fields - it's basically dig everything not iron and for that environment you just can't beat the speed and target separation qualities of the E-Trac in 2 tone FE mode.
So for that type of park I would agree with both Neb Trac and Silvereagle - Andy's coin discrimination pattern and his settings work best.
Unfortunately IMO unless you have immense time to devote to that site - you should postpone digging gold tone signals and only concentrate on the very high silver tones as you clean out all the silver and early clad first. I wonder how much it's been detected over that last 20 years - maybe a lot of trash is already picked out - if you find it's fairly clean in CO multi, then maybe give 2 tone FE a shot and see how many of the high tones DON'T ring up in the very dig-able CO 35+ range - this way you'll know if it makes sense to work in TTF and waste precious time checking the screen for the target ID for each high tone hit...
I do love my 10x12 SEF. And for digging perfect easy plugs in park grass (where there aren't too many on-lookers to get worried) nothing beats the Lesche Model 38 shovel. Everyone that tries that loves it.

I have a farm that i have been putting off until some rain came and the leaves have fallen so you think when i hit that i will go TTF and dig everything but iron.Makes sense. This farm land was once a couple hundred acres that has been divided up and passed down through generations so im excited.Ireally have a problem going slow though i guess i better get used to it.Hope i can hit the park this weekend and post my first silver. Thanks barry
I'd check and see how trasht it is bt i'd probably use minimum disc and (others my disagree but...) i'd run it in FTT. Pre the manual for unmasking you need to run High Trash. Low will just signal on the strongest signal High will signal on the strongest accepted signal... big difference there.
Just because it hasn't been open don't mean it hasn't been used for something like teens hanging out dropping all kinds of trash.
Deep ON amplifies the signal of small/deep targets, allowing the E-TRAC to better identify them. It has no adverse effect on larger, more shallow targets. JMHO HH Randy
Although it seems to me that if you can go to this old park any time you want and as much as you want then I would do the following. Set up your machine first in the way you are most used to and do nothing that you are not used to. Hunt it this way untill you feel you have become "aware" of the "HOT" spots. Then go back over the hot spots with the changes that are suggested to your ussualy settings like fast on or deep on. Hit those areas again and see how you do...mabey hit them again with other changes that have been suggested. But not all of them work the same in each area that we are all from. You will do better to test them out in your neck of the woods before you count on them as good changes. I have to hunt with the difficult setting every place I go but one and it is on sand. You may be able to run in NORmal and Trash on or off will deepnd on how much trash you have. Try the setting with some tests before you count on them.
Hi : My thoughts, let the park tell you. I would hit it with the Killer Coin program, multi tone and go from there. Adust to the site not to what we tell you,it will tell you as you go. Hardrock
I think that the only variable will be the soil conditions. Use your regular program and technique. There will be the same junk as a currently used park with pull tabs and aluminum foil.
