How would you handle this site?

When I drove up to Montana last week, I passed through a town that has a fairly large common area. I stopped to stretch my legs and decided to sample this area. I picked up some Wheats from the 20s and 30s fairly quickly, so I think this spot has pretty good potential. There isn't much trash or iron in the ground, but there are some electrical lines and plumbing pipes. It's several hours from where I live and by the time I drive there I'll only have about a half day to hunt. Would you,

1) Stick with the stock coil and work it low and slow, realizing it would take several trips there to cover the area, or
2) Put on the 17 incher, still work it slow, but cover more area in a shorter period of time, thus reducing the number of trips to the spot.

If there was a lot of trash, I know I'd stay with the stock coil or maybe even the 6 inch, but this is one of the cleanest spots I've been on....ever. I think the 17 inch coil would work well there. I've never used the 17 incher though...in fact, I don't even have one, yet. It'll be here on Wednesday though.

What say you CTX veterans?

If you can pinpoint quickly and efficiently with the 17" then I'd go with it.

As long as you can do the Minelab wiggle with the 17" I would use it

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going there tomorrow and after I get the 17 incher, I'll practice with it and see how it goes. It would definitely be an advantage to have a larger coil in such a big spot.

I would use the stock coil and here's why: you said you only sampled a small area and found coins, that's great, but what if you DO get into a really trashy hot spot area that saw a lot of action, lots of trash= lots of coins, you want the separation. I appreciate the time constraints and that's why I say the stock coil and not the 6". Just my point of view as to how I would handle it. Whatever you go with, good luck and post up the finds I want to see what you come up with. HH!!!

I would use the stock coil covers pretty good and get good separation . But it's no 6 once you sample more you will know what you well need . If you run out of places to look you can always go back with the 6. sube

Pulled a Rosie and 5 wheats from there today. Very clean area. When I get the 17, I'll try it out there and see how it works. When I'm traveling I always take all the coils I have so I can switch out if I get into some heavier trash. Had two weddings going on there today so I stayed in a back corner. I think it might give up a few pieces of silver.
