i have serval kinds , have not used them in a while, some say they go bad 'even if they are just sitting around. have had the bottom of the come loose ,but it poped right back on.

If they are modern whites, maybe even the old ones, they are water tight from the factory but if it comes apart it will get moisture in it and cause problems. Are you referring to the protective cover that snaps onto the bottom? That does not need to be there, just protects it from scratches. I've never heard of coils going bad when not being used. Do any of them seem to not work like they should? One of the symptoms will be an overload signal on the MXT at any sensitivity setting, usually a short in the wiring, but there could be other symptoms.

no i am talking about the bottom of the coil itself, not any cover on it . it just got loose or sometime.
