How To Set Up Your Detector For Winter Hunting :nerd:

Cold temperatures can kill your batteries in an hour, rendering them useless. You have two choices. You can use the "ENERGIZER ULTIMATE LITHIUM" batteries which can still work well in extreme cold conditions, or you can use my method (or variation of it) as shown below.

(ps) Still looking for people to join the Christmas gift exchange. http://www.findmall.com/read.php?79,2122725,2122725#msg-2122725

That's a great idea John!
What is the deepest snow you would hunt in? And what kind of digging tool do you use in that stuff?

I quite hunting in the woods when the snow gets to about 4" and is hard packed. Soft snow still allows the coil to slide through the snow with little friction. Depth of snow on hills can be 2 feet...it really doesn't matter. If the coin is in the snow and still readable on the detector, it comes out.

-15 C / 5 F is where I think about going out. It depends where, the wind strength and how long it's been since I went out.

Crazy stuff - hard core Canadian detectorists! If I'm out in cold that severe that it kills my batteries and I icecles form on my beard my family will know I'm nuts. They already suspect it :bouncy:

Interesting subject, kinda makes me wonder about the differences between a hobby, an addiction, and an obsession. LOL. Currently I'd say I'm between hobby and addiction. Hoping you have a warm winter. Artie
