How to Sell Finds - Gold, Diamonds

I did a search and haven't found this particular topic. Hope this isn't too offensive a topic for those who just want to "collect and collect".

I have a few rings I'd like to sell. The best one has about a half carat diamond and another 12 small ones adding up to maybe another half carat in a platinum mounting. Another is a garnet with a couple small diamonds in 14K.

Does anyone have any experience selling finds? And would they mind giving there experience?

I found a local place (California) that looks at estate items but have not gone further.

In case anyone's interested I used a BH 3300. I'm upgrading to the Fisher F4 (on my own nickel) But am just DROOLING for an F75...and maybe..just maybe...

Regards, Joe

seems like your having great success with your BH.Why upgrade, seems you know how to handle your BH just fine.Swinging a more powerful detector doesn't mean you will find more rings. Most finds aren't more than 2-6 inch's deep anyhow, except if your digging at older sites.Been there done that..keep up the good work HH

Thanks for your comment...I do agree...but seeing the newer machines just sort of inspires me.

I've got plans (don't we all...<smile>) to expand my 'digging' to gold nuggets and also meteorites (Seriously!..done the research and they are not that far away)and some DEEP digging into some researched sites. Where I'm doing my beach hunting had a port established 1860's !! The JOY I've had just discovering some of the information has paid for itself many times over even with never finding anything more.

I think 95% (if not more) of the success with a MD is OPERATOR SKILL. As I wait for my F4... I'm thinking that it's really the challenge of ME improving that is the attraction.

Regards, Joe

Joe, check out midwest refineries.com They buy silver and gold and have a good reputation. Also, if by chance you haven't, check the Fisher form above on what is being said about the f4. HH jim tn

Sounds like you definitely have the bug!!

The F4 will do a little better than the BH for what you have in mind, I believe. I wouldn't get rid of the Bounty Hunter though. It will make a great backup.

Midwest Refineries is fair and fast. They pay 94 or 95% of spot for contained gold, which is better than I could find anywhere else. Turnaround is only a few days. I have ten or twelve rings and other gold pieces I'm planning to send them next week. I've dealt with them several times, and they have always been great. DON'T send the stones, however. They don't buy them, and you don't want to just give them away.

Thanks Marc,

I did check out their website and it definitely sounds interesting.

Found out Platinum is double gold's price but they take a larger fee %. Also interesting that gold melts (about)2000 degrees and Platinum 3000 degrees.

I have 2 gold and one platinum ring (about 10 silver)so I will wait on those.

I did some research and can get an appraisal for the diamond locally for $35. I'm just guessing but I expect that I would get no more than 50% of the appraised value when I sell.
