I am planing my first MD trip and need some pointers.
Wish to detect in water - beach is not very good option for time period (few days)...
Do I choose sand bottom of bay or rock / gravel / mix bottom?
Snorkel or long scoop will be method for recovery.

There is no big change in tides over here and sea is mostly calm ... waves are smaller than on oceans.
Thank you!

If you have to cut your teeth water hunting on rock/gravel or sand bottom, I would go with the sand to start. A good scoop for either bottom is a must. Using a snorkel is not as easy as it might seem. Stick with the knee/waist deep hunts in the sand, you will cover more ground and it will help you to adjust. Good Luck!

Sand beaches or bottom is problematic ...
sanded in or not - cut or not ...
storm or not ...
changes all the time

I have experience with lakes and sand / long scoop

Busy section, deepest water, closest to shore...stay off the soft overburden.

Thanks a lot for all the input.
I have been snorkeling with the excal for over 4 years now, and because of my diving/ snorkeling background for me it's very easy, no problems with depth or hunting all the way with the water above my head.
My question is about the scoop, and the length of the pole.

Thanks again to all you guys

Pole between waist and chest high for me. Any deeper and you may as well snorkel as recovery is easier. In my opinion. Any beach, any time, any bottom, just do it. Learn as you go.
