How to make your X terra a pleasure to use

I have an Explorer as well, but love my X Terra for it's sweep speed etc. BUT...I am so used to my Sunray probe on the Explorer that it's difficult to do without. Also, I am tired of the detector falling over on uneven ground or setting it down in the dirt/mud. Lastly, if you are like me and enjoy being out in the summer when it's cool after the sun goes down you probably wish the X Terra had a backlight. Well, the following photos are my fixes for these problems. If you want to do the same I will tell you the specifics of how to set it up. Enjoy!

Very nice indeed....well done looks very professional. Another alternative for a light is a head mounted LED light which fits perfectly on my cap with ear-phones. If your like me and hunt at night I prefer to not use the ear-phones at night because I like to hear my surroundings in the dark :). Nice Photo's
Cheers.

You've got some great ideas there Jeff. I never thought of mounting my pocket probe like that. Looks like it is a good location for balance on the X-Terra. Love the light.
When I did my first night hunt with the X-Terra, I just notched out all but a few notches so that I could get the targets that I really wanted and used the probe to find them once I had them pinpointed. That way I could hunt by audio only.
Looks like the coil on the probe has seen better days.
The velcro on the cable lead is a nice touch, as that illuminates the strain on the coil connection to the box.
Keep them bright ideas coming.

I am much the same with the head phones but I leave one ear uncovered, as I like to detect at night and early in the morning and no matter what time i am on the beach there is always a few drunks about.

are actually a bipod made by BT Paintball for a paintball gun, they are spring loaded and will extent to about 8 inches. The light is from an old original Nintendo Gameboy.

Some great tips, Jeff and Maria. And timely for me, too.

I'd been assuming that sooner or later Sunray would come with a probe for the XTerras, since they have them on other popular Minelabs. But I just received a post the other day from Ralph at Sunray that Minelab is not sharing the V-Flex technology with any after-market suppliers. So there won't be one any time soon for the XTerras.

So now the Pocket UniProbe is the most logical choice, even though it's much pricier :(
