How to make tejon waterproof ?

Mracquis

New member
I bought Tesoro tejon to hunt in fresh water til my neck and I was wondering how the best way to make it water proof.

I have a 12x10" coild with a long cable and I was thinking about removing the battery compartments from where they are located on the tejon, attaching them to the control box with a strong tape and wearing the control box

on a belt around my neck outside of the drysuit or inside of the drysuit when it rains outside.

Any other ideas ?

Also: will the tesoro widescan 12x10" coil offer any advantages over the stock 9x8" coil ?

Some guys just put the whole control box in an Otter box and use clamshell connectors.
Here is a pic of one such conversion with a Vaquero.

thanks!

I dont really like this idea, especially if the box is taken under water. I know a few guys who solved the watetproof issue this way, but these boxes tend to leak, and the detector becomes too light, meaning that you need to apply additional pressure to keep it down.

I would not do it to a Tejon.I would just save up for a tigershark or get a ATpro for fresh water. That Tejon is such a nice detector to make a mistake on.

Tejon is very deep, Tigershark/At pro are a joke compared to it. it must be done :/

And when your out in chest deep water and find the Tejon needs some manual adjustments to function properly...........
To do it right you need external controls, dedicated waterproof housing, sealed pots, switches with waterproof seals and water proof connectors.
By the time your done, cost would be around what you would pay for a new or used machine mentioned further along in my post. Not to mention the
time you put into such a mod, then to find out it doesn't perform like you hoped.....
I would suggest you get the proper machine for the job. If your after depth and small gold water hunting, get a PI or
one of those CZ21, AT, Excaliburs if the Tigershark won't do the job.

But, it's your detector, you can do what you like with it. You know I do................

ok I figured it out, this is what I'm going to do: I will put the upper shaft with the coltrnol box/batteries in a drybag and attach it to my neck. quite simple and effective
