buy a small HOE from menards just a childs hoe and what i do is when i want to get back up after digging a target i put the hoe close to my feet and both handson the top of the handle and pull myself up it works great because the thing that tires me out the most is getting up and down , now with the hoe i split the difrence and i can tap the holes down good to try it out you will see

Pretty neat idea Gunnar.

What I do is during the cold winter months, (besides drooling over where I am going to hunt in the Spring lol ) I exercise by using a super squats hip belt made by Ironmind. There is no load on the back as the weight is held at the hips. You can also buy a loading pin from them or you can make your own (I made my own) Belt is expensive but it helps me build tremendous strength in my hips, knees & legs.(something I need) At first you will think you can apply some serious poundages to this exercise but you will find out quickly how even 30 - 40 lbs (at first) will make you think twice. I started out light at 20lbs and slowly week after week, month after month built myself up with a fair amount of weight. I perform 3 sets of 5. When I can complete all three sets of 5, I increase the weight ten pounds. I am after strength / power not bodybuilding that is why I keep the sets and reps low. Something to think about. I see and feel the difference when bending / kneeling down. I can almost "spring back up" It helps me out big time and carries over wonderfully to this hobby. Just do a search on the internet and check it out. Happy Hunting.

Bring it on great Ideas

EPL,is exactly right.Work out with weights run or walk to drop pounds.Don't be embarrassed to use knee pads especially on hard ground no reason to put excess pressure on the knees. HH Ron

Yep earthlypotluck has a great suggestion there and Ron does also. Im gonna order one of those belts (more for my work than detecting). The walking I try and do nearly every day, thats a great one for your legs/heart/lungs:thumbup:

W6pea,

that isn't bothering him (it doesn't bother me either for the most part) it is the constant getting up and down from a kneeling or crouched position when digging. This contraption you linked to looks pretty neat to take the pressure off of swinging. Every bit helps for those that need such a device.

because the thing that tires me out the most is getting up and down

For those that are interested, here are a couple videos of different setups for the hip belt.

You might think about getting one of theseDoc's Swingy thing

The biggest problem with bad backs, knees, etc...is excess weight. Drop the weight and you'll feel 20 years younger. I need to get back to 180, as I'm 224 right now after this winter and my hurt finger doing nothing. I'm 6'2" and believe me I can feel all this extra weight. Time dor a diet.

Take some one with you and have them do all of the digging.:nerd::rofl:

Now that is a very good option lol hmmm who can I find.....
