How to Hunt / Pre-Planning

Hello all,

Being new to this i am looking for some pointers. I have attached a couple of images of the park in Andover Illinois. This is a small town with a long and rich history. the first image is an aerial photograph from 1937 overlaid onto the current park, image two is the same overlay but is transparent.

My questions to the group are these.

1. Does this look like a good area to hunt after obtaining permission?
2. How would you hunt this area? The tree lines along the ball-field that were there in 37 but are no longer there look good to me.
3. What kind of targets would you be looking for?
4. What kind of setting would you use on your machine? What would you notch/discriminate out?
5. What else should i be asking?

I am tied to a desk most of the day at work so i think a little bit of "armchair" detecting could be good for not only me and other newbies but possibly others as well. I have not seen any other threads like this one on the Internet and hope this starts a lively and active discussion.

If anyone else would like help with overlaying let me know the area and i can see what i can dig up for you. Ha Ha "dig up", did not really intend that to be a pun.

Thanks

Clean image of andover park....
Note the the small building in the fence line of the ball-field, was an early jail.

Short history:

Andover is the oldest community in Henry County. Andover was the first area to be settled as a town within the county and the first mill was built in 1836-37. Andover some became a hub of wagon trails.

Andover was founded in September, 1835 by the Reverend Ithamar Pillsbury, as an agent for the Andover Colony. Pillsbury, who had been a corporal in the War of 1812 attached in the New Hampshire military, narrowly escaping death in the war which had convinced him to become a Presbyterian minister.

That outfield looks quite interesting. I would love to hunt that. HH, Nancy

You might want to keep in mind that a LOT of people read these forums Randy and when you post places to hunt, you will all of the sudden have lots of unwanted help helping you clean out the silver and other nice finds in your hunting spots and they don't always fill their holes or leave good impressions of of our hobby.

That is why we don't post where our club hunts are on the forum.

For your information Finds Map and mapping forum has a lot of good information on overlays and the like.
