How to go about fishing a rocky river ford ?

I plan on fishing a small river ford this year. This river is prone to extended flooding. The old ford is bedrock. Any coins or artifacts will be downstream. The rocks get flushed downstream and get stacked up making gravel bars. Heres my question. I have never hunted an area like this before. Can coins be pushed downstream and end up close to the surface of the gravel bars, or are they too heavy and be on the bottom , out of reach?

I do not mean fishing, lol, of course I meant detecting. I fish a lot and had fishing on my mind.

Theres a guy called "aquachigger" who has a lot of youtube vids where he hunts a rocky river...they are good vids...he finds a huge amount of stuff...he snorkels and picks old coins right out of the exposed bedrock and not so much the gravel bars. I think if you watch them you will get a good idea of where to hunt your river..

If gravel bars are big enough to support a party crowd, you might find some stuff lost there too.

I found a lot of clad and 1 silver roosvelt dime at river's shoreline. I think not many people do metal detecting along the river. I don't find a wheat penny and maybe older coins is at much deeper that my machine cant able to contact it! I guess that older coins is harder to find because of flooded and rocky shoreline might be best to look for old coins. So far I don't find wheat cent at mud shoreline! Pennies is hard to read date and bad shape if its in water too long.

Mudpuppy, I checked out aquachiggers videos, now Im rearin to go. I dont have a waterproof machine but I have another idea. There are cracks in the bedrock. Im going to wait till this summer when the water is low and clear take a snorkel , a propointer and search in those cracks. This should be a good spot . There are two crossings there. There are no signs of roads going to the river but it is such a natural area that I checked an old 1800s map and sure enough it shows a road splitting and both trails going acorss the river.

Cool! Those vids of his are pretty amazing huh? One of the reasons I sprung for a Pro last year...see that stinky pile of silver coins he found in ankle deep water at that ford? Nearly wet myself!

Last summer I started searching a river that has a solid red shale bottom, no mud, only 2-3 feet deep but fast moving water. Found a few coins in the cracks of the solid shale and some pull tabs. Get a VibraProbe pinpointer, 100% water proof, no external switch on it to leak. I made a very small backpack to put my CoinStrike control box in, no need to buy an underwater detector. I will be going back this summer. Hard to walk without slipping and sliding on the smooth shale. Jabbo

Glue thick felt (1/4" ) on the bottom of your boots for an almost slip-free stroll over slippery rocks.
