There is a website called elance.com.
On this site, you can post any kind of projects, almost, art, writing assignment, proof-reading, web design, logo design, ad design, software development, etc.
The project is then posted for people to bid on, each of the providers, of which there are thousands, can bid on your project if they feel they can do the work you want. You can state the maximum bid you will consider. Each bidder usually has a portfolio of their work, so you can see if they have done things like this before.
I was looking for a picture of Saint Apollonia. She is the patron saint of dentists. I found a picture that was a good concept, however I could not find out who the copyright owner was so I could get permission to use the picture.
SO - I posted the picture on elance and said I wanted someone who could redo the picture and make it look like something that was created hundreds of years ago. I wanted it to look old.
Well the first picture is the one I found, the second is the one the artist I awarded the bid to created for me. Obviously I can now copyright this picture in my name, and it is so significantly different from the originl, that no one could claim copyright infringement.
Anyway I put this out for bid saying the max I wanted to pay was $200, I accepted this artists bid which was $120.
So if your gold prospecting club needs a logo, or design for their newsletter, or a website, this is a place where you can actually have people argue over getting your business cheap.
One caveat, make sure you specify that upon completion of the work all copyrights, and interests in the piece are transferred to you. This prohibits them from coming back later and trying to ask for royalty fees.
Pretty amazing, I would say.
Take care!
