So all a guy has to do is look for a red firepit with a bench close by and follow these measurements? Got it!
Mud

Yes....and it's that simple. Now that everyone knows what my fire pit looks like, and the treasure map so to speak, I am at risk of coming home one of these days with two rows of holes dug for the retrieval of my buried treasure. :look:

Hey everyone new to the site, but I have being swing and diggin with the AT Pro for about a year. I read the article on how to increase depth by lower your ground balance 10-20 point below to reach the silver. Can someone explain this concept?

Thanks:

Mud: That's why he had to move to Edmonton--the old yard looked like a herd of rabid prairie dogs came through.

BUT, we are sure that is not ALL that is buried in your yard. Some of us are not apt at digging in dirt, so please don't be too mad by some of the other mess we might leave. We do promise we will fill all hole, just not sure about getting the green side up!

The diagram did look familiar, I just could not place where I had seen it.

Now my wife wants a fire pit...Just trying to keep up with the neighbors up north that really need some heat. She may not understand what the pit is for.

PSSST!........ Bury your stash a foot down in the center of the fire pit. It will be protected from heat, and no one would ever even consider digging there. I read that in a book once. Don't tell anybody!:chase:

It goes something like this.....

To make your detector more sensitive to high conductors (silver, copper) lower the VDI numbers. To make your metal detector more sensitive to low conductors (gold, iron) raise the VDI numbers.

Now for the AT Series, instead of raising/lowering 10-20 points at a time, try increments of 5 at a time.

Thanks alot for the info, i will try it out.

Your take on a bias ground balance method is "generally speaking" right? Bias balancing can produce negative conditions under certain situations from what is shown. How about "wrap"? How does a negative bias ground balance affect wrap? Hammered silvers are low conductors. A negative bias would pull sensitivity away from those, wouldn't it? Just curious.

I would like to understand this better. I believe I am dealing with sites that coins are buried deep 12+". So if I understand it so far I do a manuel ground balance and go negative in incremintes of 5?

Yes....ground balance, then manually lower numbers, about 5 digets, then hunt. That should make your coil a bit hotter for silver and copper. And do dig those whisper sounds.

Thanks for the info. I will try it. I don't think the soil I have in West Michigan is bad so the machine should not be be effected mcuh with instability.

I was unloading my Mom's car and decided to just swing my At/Pro in her yard and not dig anything. Under the power lines it went crazy in some field dirt that was packed into the drive way. Moving into the yard, I got what I just knew was a dime. Turned out to be a vienna sausage can with a quart beer bottle screw on cap folded up inside the can. Of course, I had to dig it and I open any can I find if it's squashed flat just in case.
Anyway, I was at our local church awhile back and into a lot of metal junk and manually lowered my GB about 20 points and where my detector was sounding off all the time over what turned out to be a bell housing piece, it made no sound at all after lowering manual to -20 GB. Next time I will try the 5 points at the time and see what happens.
