How to clean aluminum

SWMO Mark

New member
I found a couple aluminum tokens that have some thick corrosion on them. Does anyone have a good method on how to clean the corrosion off without damageing the tokens. Thanks, Mark

This may sound odd, But it works.......

Get a piece of aluminum foil big enough to completly wrap the token, then spit (saliva) not a loogy ,,,on both sides of token and wrap it up overnight. then next day..gently rub token with the aluminum foil and more spit.

Works well for me, (spit shine) it really does the job well.

Hi Mark, Try some "Duro" Aluminum Jelly, a Cleaner an Brightener I have not used the stuff so much on aluminum tokens, but it is great on gold and silver buttons. Follow the directions closely though or you can damage some items if not careful. As for Aluminum tokens, any luck cleaning them is a chore and usually once corroded, they are toast. I have some half $ sized copper plated aluminum tokens I found years ago that are beautiful except for where their middles had large holes corroded out because of the aluminum base metal had "rotted" out. Aluminum tokens usually only need a "pinhole" or two and then they are pretty much done for. Good luck, but do not expect much good results when dealing with aluminum. HH, Charlie
