How to check for a bad coil?

Hey guys. I just have a quick question. How do you check for a bad coil? I wondering if this in normal or maybe not. When I put my detector in AM mode, and gb it to quiet down, it hard to stop it from making noice when I sweep it. I can even run my hand accross the coil and and it gose off. I was just wondering if their is a way to crank it up and make it a bit more quite in all metal mode to get the most depth and sencitivity out of the machaine. And finaly What would be a good set up for my GB SE in AM mode to get the most sencetivity out of it.. Thanks just planing a trip out and want to know. :help:

No seriously you might be running it to hot on the sens...You probably cant run the sens wide open like you can in Disc mode...Try to turn the gain back when in all metal mode and see if the noise does not stop...

I would think if it does not false in disc mode the coil should be O.K....

see if the lower power help's and lower power in all metal will still be extremely sensitive on small target's like gold
