From the land of the Bluenose.....if you have been at this hobby a long time (don't know if my 34 years qualifies) and sometimes don't feel like answering the 20,000 questions from kids or on lookers try wearing a traffic or fluorescent vest..........does work. Swing in peace lasses and bouys!

I have a Police T-shirt and an FBI ball cap. This works wonders here in the states until you come across an old man who wants to know if your looking for Jimmy Hoffa :) Seems old men want to get nosy and find out who or what you are looking for. Then I just get serious and tell them it's on a "need to know" basis...it usally works but some of the time they figure out that I'm just looking for coins and we wind up discussing why I'm wearing a Police T-shirt and FBI cap:) Gotta love'em.

You will be supprised how talking to them will get great information on where else to look...on guy told me I should look in an area close to where I was and I actually found two silver dollars within a few yards from where he pointed. seems there was an old trading post there right after the civil war...I continue to search there...maybe I'll find Hoffa???

Swingin' and diggin'...swingin' and diggin'

Yeah that would work. Years ago when beeper swingers still drew crowds of curious onlookers my old man used to tell them we were geologists for some big oil company and then they would disappear. :) Since I wear headphones I just pretend I don't hear them.

Yeah them old fellers ( and I am now one ) are a wealth of information. Over the years I have had several oldtimers steer me to some real gravy spots, like a spot in this big park that was a race track back in the twenties and thirties. THe old boy even pointed out where the grandstand once stood. Boy did I make out there. I'm all ears whenever an oldtimer wants to talk.
