How slow is slow.

How long should a 3 ft sweep (one way) take on an SE for deep coins? 2 seconds, 3 ,4? Everyone says slow but how slow is slow?

As fast as it with take if you were looking for live landminesto NOT step on...:)...actually that may be too slow.

I found that if in an open Ironmask screen where I would hear the Ferrous tones of iron that my coil went over or in a wide open Smartfind screen in Ferrous tones with very limited discrimination , I would swing as fast as it takes for the processor to calculate what you just passed your coil over.

The Sensitivity settings when in Semi-Auto would also determine your swing speed.

Hope this little bit of info helps.

That is going to depend on what else is in the ground besides a target. The trashier the ground, the slower the hunt. You want to listen to every "maybe" if you want to find the deepest of the deep.

So in trash you creep along, this I understand. But when hunting when targets are few and far between , how fast do you swing your coil so as not to miss the deep ones yet still cover as much ground as possible. Seems everyone would have a speed, I'm still figuring out mine. I was just wondering how much variance from person to person.

Even in clean ground....if you are looking for the deep targets you need to go slow.....and over lap a little...you will miss deep ones....the audio is short and quiet....if you can say "one thousand one" at a normal pace like your counting seconds.....in a 3' one way swing....you should be ok.....if you hear any audio at all you must rescan again and check diff. directions around target....could be on edge and only hit good one way....when in high trash, you need to go slower.....and use the diff. directions when hitting any audio that had any hint of good tone....try to seperate the good from the bad with very short swing and circle it and try to find the good tone....iron edges will get the best of you when you have multiple iron objects close enough that with each swing one object sounds off on the right side of coil and the other object sounds off on the left side of coil.....thats why you always circle it....its not easy but you will get the hang of it after awhile....

Well put Mattockman and I agree about those iron falses, one on one side of coil and another on the other side. I thought I was the only one that had noticed that.

Most motion detectors require movement.... I know on other detectors if i went to slow id get a lot of false signals. Almost like EMI or ground interference. This was because i wasnt moving the coil fast enough for the filters to work properly. I think the question is at what point do you start loosing depth because the detector isnt filtering properly based on how you have your recovery set?

Dont laugh, I actually equate it to looking for mines when I am out with mine... real slow.
