How slow is slow enough

I have been told that the E-Trac requires a really slow swing speed.

Can anybody describe how slow I should be swinging the coil?

I would say it depends on the site. I swing slower in trash and in hunted out spots where I'm trying to squeak out some well hidden or deep targets. If you are not finding anything good or your threshold is nulling a lot...slow down. If your finds are good carry on or feel free to swing faster. Btw...2 to 3 seconds in one direction is about as slow as I go.

Sweep speed depends on how much you have disced out. Like Mcdetect said, if your detector is nulling, you need to slow the sweep speed down.
A work around this is to hunt is a full open screen.
There was a park many years ago I was detecting in. I had the Explorer XS set up so I could swing it like a whipsaw and still hit deep 10" wheatbacks easily.
There was not an overwhelming amount of trash in this park. Then there are parks where there is trash and I open up the screen all the way on the E-trac and sweep the coil
about two seconds to the left and 2 to the right and listen for a hit that rises above the iron hits. Then I go over the hit very slowly and isolate it then dig and Bam! a silver coin.

Completely agree. The E-Trac is amazing when you really slow it down.

All good stuff thanks guys, that gives me the what, when, where, why and how much.

This slow deal has been kind of hard for me coming off other brand machines, because you slow down with them to much and the depth goes to just about zero. The E-Trac doesn't seem to care as long as the coil is moving.

We are heading out tomorrow for another hunt, we will be picking up where we left off last week with the 3 wheat pennies.

Shortening your sweep in and around junk will help to tell you what repeats and what does not. Length of sweep with an 8" coil...1-2 ft.

I have been doing that, the area we are hunting has a lot of brush so we are working in and around all that. A full shoulder to shoulder swing is out of the question.

No luck for either of us I got one clad dime and my brother got a penny and a clad quarter. Not so good for a 7 hour hunt, I am starting to think our hunting areas have been pretty much cleaned.

We got find some new hunting areas or start going for jewelry or clad hunting.

I hear you loud and clear Ron. It's the same way around here,it's just BEATEN to DEATH! I've been thinking about perhaps doing the same,going after more jewelry. It doesn't seem to matter much how far I drive for a "better spot" anymore,they're ALL picked over to 8" deep.

that's the good thing about fbs it can be near a non motion detector just hoover over a possible target checking if its iron or not..

Absolutely. Take the time to sweep slowly in iron and when one gets a hit that rises above the iron one can go super slow just moving the coil back and forth in one or two inch slow sweeps
in the midst of the iron with the front of the coil and isolate the good object. I've done this in places where it was said there were no more good coins to be had. Usually the people who say
that swing their coil way to fast and miss the hits in the midst of the iron or their detector nulls out over the iron and they miss the coin.

I have yet to find any place completely cleaned out. Just go to the trashy part of the park and hunt for the goodies in the mix of the trash. You should do well since
many detectorists avoid such areas.
