How should silver coins read i.e. dimes

Here is my setup: Sensitivity at 9, discrimination just shy of pull tabs/nickles, and the 5.3 eclipse coil.

I have read and re-read chapter 6 of the MXT - Edge book. But I am wondering if there is someone out there that could put into layman terms how exactly the MXT300 responds to silver dime. I spent an hour or so out in the yard the other night burying a MERC to get a better idea of what to look for. Here are my results:

0-3 inches it hits like a clad dime. 3-5 hits like a clad dime with the confidence blocks jumping into the .25 to .50 cents area. 5-7 inches it jumps into all those ranges plus the zinc pennies and some crackling in the signal. 7+ jumping all over the place (to include iron

Hay Phil try zero discrimmination and full sencitivity you dont want to discriminate a thing. We hunt up here early coins and colonial relics.Go on relic mode if you get a good coin hit it will 80sto 90 .So far this has worked great for us give it a try.the silver coins read really high as do the coppers. Musket Balls are usually in the 30s to 40 rangeBut this can very as to the amont of moisture in the ground . The MXT is a relic and coin killer good hunting. Pipes :canadaflag:

I hunt in Relic mode with zero Disc, just barely a threshold, and trigger forward. I have an older MXT with the 5X10 DD coil. Now dimes read at VDI of 80/81, BUT the deeper the coin, the way it's laying in the ground and the longer it's been in the ground make a BIG difference. I've dug dimes at 12"+ and the meter was reading around VDI of 10 to 15, BUT the beep was a nice, solid, short sound. I DON'T REALLY LOOK AT THE METER ANY MORE, unless I'm just at a local park shooting for coins. JMO
