what is the best way to clean wheat's and other old coins without damaging them and making it easy to see

Most clean copper with a peroxide bath the drugstore variety is 3% but jewelery supply houses have 35% to 50% that can be diluted that is far more cost effective. For common copper or even older stuff that does not have any great value I tumble in soap & water for an hour then water with about 2-3 ounces of red wine vinegar, white won't work not sure why but the red wine stuff does an amazing job to bring back the lust. Silver again if not valuable soap & water then dip with a brightener. Dan
