how sensitive Tejon to rechargeable batteries?

New member
hello, how long Tejon will work with 1.2V rechargeable batteries? how sensitive Tejon to current drop? Thanks Stasys

Stasys

I have not had good success with NiMH rechargeables, I haven't tried Li-ion. The current drops off rapidly in the rechargeables I've used and left me with an erratic unresponsive detector. The charge didn't last very long either (couple hours at best) but my batteries were not high quality. The other thing is that most rechargers only charge 4 AA batteries at a time which means you will need 2 chargers. The eveready nicad 4-packs w/wall charger I bought burned out quickly. Later I tried it again with the Harbor Freight charger and some of their NiMH batteries. While the charger still works well, the batteries didn't perform any better. Someone else here may have better results. If they do, you should find out what brand batteries they are using.

Might call Tesoro for recommendations but there are many brands and some just work much better in certain units..Unfortunately rechargables unlike alkalines hold a charge and abruply drop and never had any luck with rechargeables in metal detectors. I would check Walgreens and now Sams club has a good buy on members mark brand and would suggest you look for sales as alkalines drop their charge slowly and would hate to miss a good find due to a quick drop of a rechargeable. Perhaps some member has had good luck with a certain brand and could add input but all in all would advise using alkalines and some manuals just recommend alkalines...Might stop at Radio shack also and they may add some input...

Thanks for answers, I usually use rechag. with no problem in my explorer, but just put the same rechargeable in tejon and its beeps only one time when i switch it on, its look like I have to add one battery or start to use other rechargeable pack. another possibility to buy 1.5V rechargeable, but never had in my hands. interesting on what voltage drop tejon start to behave badly. Thank you all Stasys

Ive used rechargable Vapex Brand batts in my Tejon for a couple a yrs with good results , even fully charged the detector will only give 4 at best 5 beeps on startup , roughly get bout 14 hrs outta 'em befor they drop to 2 beeps then chang'em out ..theres been plenty of debate on the use of rechargables in the Tejon as the total power from 8 x 1.2 volt = 9.6 volt weras the alki's 8x1.5 = 12 volt ...doesnt seem to be any loss of performance using rechargable that Ive noticed ..so quality rechargables should fit the bill

I have had good luck with some rechargeable and not so good with others. Quality high mAH have given half day hunts (& was still going). Goes the same with chargers.
I recently received (gift) a couple packs of the Eneloop - eight AA & four AAA + charger in each pack. I'll be curious on how the Eneloop performs. They supposed to not have the storage/time discharge typical of previous rechargeable batteries.
I'm sure the "Search" feature will bring back loads of post's/replies regarding rechargeable batteries & chargers.

thanks for helping me, but I will remake my self to 9 rechargeable battery pack, I did 7 on my Cibola and it was cheap and simple. i star to see that Tesoro on the border of disappearing if they make things with so simple mistakes. one is when I saw on my Cibola metal coil bolt???!!! Thank you all Stasys
