can the sunray probes pick up very small gold? like an earing 10k? just curiuos. ive heard they work great on coin size objects but sometimes dont respond to very small gold jewlery. thanks for any input

Your question made me wonder so I tried mine. Small light gold rings 21/2 - 3 inches in air. Very small, sterling charm from a charm bracelet 1+ inch in air. Very thin, fine gold chain, not so good1/2' or so. some small gold flakes I use for testing, had to be nearly touching. Hope this is helpful.

ok thanks alot... i know someone that has my setup, a xlt with sunray probe and said no problem on rings etc, but get down to small gold ear ring sized and you have to rub on probe for a response. i checked the 9.5 coil on detector and i get 3.5 inches air test on same tiny heart.

My experience with other probes indicates that they generally must be very close for small gold.

One other point in favor of the Sunray probes. The probe will respond to the sensitivity setting just like the coil. From time to time I've found it helpful to max out the sensitivity when using the probe on barely audible responses.
