How outdated is my unit? (CZ-7a Pro)

Hi ... I have a cz-7a pro that I bought when they were new a number of years back as a reward to myself for finishing college. Things like marriage/kids came up and I never really got into the hobby as I wanted, until recently. I see that many newer units have been released since then, and what I'm really wondering isn't "what's new and cool?", but rather is my detector significantly worse at finds then newer machines. I live in NW Washington state, and would generally just be coin hunting ... and hitting some beaches now and again.

Thanks for any advice/information :)

The CZ7a pro uses the 9 volt batteries doesn't it? I would consider it to be still a top machine and they get some good depth. Just sold my CZ7a for what I paid for it used, only sold it cause I want a water machine, it's my least used detector and wifey had something to do with it, LOL! HH, Mike

Have a CZ-7a Pro too.(Also have a CZ-20,HH PI, and Sov GT.) Bought it new a way while back. Hunt with it in fairly clean beaches on the dry & wet sand, and in tame shallow surf. Mainly just use the all-metal mode, and a 12" coil. No plans to sell it. Use the CZ-20 if I expect to get soaked wet. Bought it new and will keep it too. Use the HH PI mainly if I hunt sometimes directly after work. Light weight, only a couple components so easy to store, and can get wet. Deep but a little harder for me to listen for targets though because of continuous background sound from sweeping (not threshold sound ). Still need to make time to learn the GT. May have to wait until my body gets too worn out from digging, and need to use something more discriminating.
In my opinion, if your CZ is working and looking fine (and especially if it also has the lifetime warranty), keep it.

Hodd, I've had two CZ7As greater depth than the CZ5 or CZ3D and can notch. If you bought an inline probe this unit is as good or better than anything out there. If you know of a local group that hunts join up with them on one of their hunts.I think you will find the CZ7A will perform very well when compared to the latest and greatest.

The ONLY reason I don't have mine anymore is because I found an "outdated" new in the box CZ-70pro with a lifetime warranty a few months ago. I will NEVER get rif of it. Enjoy your CZ. It;s a killer on silver coins.

I'm only passingly familiar with the CZ-7a Pro, but I can tell you, in general, the newer units will be lighter and get more out of less batteries. Coins are still the same (especially the older ones we're interested in), the soil hasn't changed. Some of the newer units are faster responding and a bit more sensitive, perhaps even better at diagnosing trash from treasure. You're certainly not out of the running.

I still use and enjoy my Minelab Musketeer, which is 12 year old technology. If it is the difference between detecting or not, grab it and go. If you can afford a newer unit and still keep the CZ as a back-up, better still. Should you trade it in? Probably not. Only you can answer that. I'd say use it and practice, practice, practice and see how you feel about it after a few months of deeper involvement.

Charlie, the CZ70 or other units have no advantage over the CZ7A weight or battery consumption. The CZ70 has an extra tone and a few coins moved around to higher tones on the discriminate.I have a friend who has a detector shop and sells multiple brand the Cz70 is the only unit he will hunt with.I had a Minelab Advantage its a lot more heavy than a CZ7a same weight as a Sovereign like batteries has good depth, but has an appetite for bottle caps.

I sold my XLT last November witch I owned for 5 years and picked up the CZ7 brand new demo.In my opinion so far the CZ7 goes deeper then the XLT by at least 2 inches.I love this machine. There is no better machine for nickles then cz's.

When I used my CZ7A on hunts with friends it always performed very well. One hunt I was hunting near one of the hunter's with a DFX.The CZ got a distance signal a two way repeat my friend with the DFX checked the target and said a definite junk target. As the other hunter watched I retrieved a mercury head dime from about a six inch depth.I did sell this metal detector and a lot of my other equipment. My units I use at this point are down to two a Fisher 1236x and a Minelab Sovereign XS tricked out.By the way I have owned and used over a 100 units in the last couple of years. These detectors work for my ground condition and for my type of coin hunting.Bottom line the CZ7A is a great metal detector that has proved its self many times and still is a contender.

A CZ is a CZ and within reason any CZ will go as deep as another will with same stability as some are tuned a little hotter..
I have used every CZ model ever made and now have a CZ7A pro as I don't particuliarly care for the new facets parameters or extra tones of the newest made CZ70 or CZ3D, but of course a personal preference..
You have a fine unit in my estimation that has stood the test of time so be my guest in keeping it or perhaps buying a 2007 model unit with some more bells and whistles and a high pricetag but thats your call.
