Just found this today, Think it is a coin weight.
not my photo, but the one I found is the same.
The Roman numerals say XDVIIIG. Well without the G it reads 518, but that cant be the year....can it so what about the G

Made me smile. Cheers

Spoke to a guy locally. He seems to think that it is a coin weight, about 1600's. Apparently they used them to check the weight of the real gold coins, to detect against fakes, made of other metals, then dipped in gold to look like the real gold coin.
Still not certain of real dat though.
