thanks A4wdguy! I see you have a mess of analog detectors. Can you tell me the difference between CM and CB on a 5900? I think its something to do with the circuit board.
Jim
The CM stands for Coinmaster. That's the whole series of general purpose detectors who's primary function is coin/jewelry/relic hunting rather than gold prospecting or other specialty/industrial detectors.
The CB you mentioned, is, as Crazyman noted short for Composite Board. That is to say, a board made of a composite material such as epoxy and fiberglass.
The SL designates Slim Line. How this can be considered slim is beyond me, it is the same exact case as the previous blue boxes, including the 'C' cell power. But, there you go...
So your black box CM 5900 Di Pro SL (CB) translates like this:
Coinmaster 5900 Depth Indicator Slim Line Composite Board
I have asked a White's engineer about some kind of reference that lays out all the acronyms Whites uses, but am told there is no such thing. The most effective method is to ask the old timers like Monte (a beta tester before there was such a thing) what they mean.
Personally, before I buy another "How to Get Deeper With Your Detector Than Everybody Else Can With Theirs" book, I would buy a book that laid out the entire history of White's, described every model they made, and explained what the different designations and date codes mean. Now THAT would be worthwhile reading!
