How much more depth does the Excelerator 10 x 14 DD coil get over the stock coil on the ace 250?

How much more depth does the Excelerator 10 x 14 DD coil get over the stock coil on the ace 250?
Is it worth upgrading? Is the depth really that much more?
please advise thank you!

It seems that most people are realistically getting about 2-1/2 to 3" additional depth. I have one on the ace 350, and what I like about it, more than the depth, is the amount of ground you can cover. The 350 already had a rather large DD coil, so the depth increase wasn't that much. I suppose every little bit counts though. I might also mention that if you have never used a DD coil before, they will certainly spoil you. Can pinpoint with enough accuracy to probe coins. I would recommend it to anybody with an ace! If you use the search tool on this site for "ace 10x14" there are several comments on it.
Good Luck and HH

Oh, and I should mention the one down side of this coil... when you set your detector down to dig a target, the darn thing rolls around. The coil is large enough that it acts as a wheel and the small stand made on the base of the cuff just isn't big enough to stabilize the machine. I find that I have to lay my detector across my knees while I kneel to dig. Not a real issue, but that's really the only complaint that I can come up with for this thing!
If you get one, you'll like it.

Not unless you want another 2-3 inches in depth, greater coverage, faster target response, better isolation, dead on pinpointing.

Sure. Pinpointing with a double "D" search coil is actually easier than pinpointing with a concentric(once you get the hang of it). Just remember that a double"D" search coil detects just as deeply from the toe(front tip) of the coil to the heel(rear tip) of the coil. The detection pattern is kinda like a knife edge going into the ground. So, if you just wiggle the search coil over the target while pulling it back towards you, when the signal stops, the target will be located right in front of the tip of the coil. Or, you can do the opposite and push the search coil forward as you wiggle over the target. In this case, when the signal stops, the target will be directly behind the rear tip of the search coil.
Here is a link to a field test report on Lost Treasure magazine by Uncle Willy on double"D" search coil. He explains it very well:

Actually, page 34 of the AT Pro owner's manual(available online/link on AT Pro forum) gives a great instruction/explaination of how to pinpoint with a double"D" search coil.
Best of luck to ya!:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)
