How much $$ for a brand new DFX. And does the DFX still compete?

I was wondering if someone can answer a few questions for me. How much does a brand new DFX cost? I know there is the regular DFX and then there is the DFX 300. I have been going back and forth all week as to what machine I want to get. I hate to have to call Kco everyday asking tons of questions when I am not sure what I want to buy. I would very much appreciate it if someone could just tell me what I can expect to pay from one of the forum sponsors, or what the going price is for a new DFX. Also seeing how the DFX has been around a while can someone tell me if it still can compete with some of the other top of the line machines out there. I know about the V3i, but I really do not want to spend 1500.00 for one. I am considering a DFX since it appears to be a detector that I can tailor to whatever detecting condition I encounter. I can run 3khz for coins or 15k for jewelry. I can adjust the recovery speed and go silent search to make the detector be like another brand if I choose.

Thanks so much in advance
HH
Jason

The standard DFX has been discontinued for maybe a year now, but the DFX 300 is available for $1195 retail. Prices will vary from dealer to dealer so call around and use the dealer locator by clicking on the White's banner above. You might want to use the classifieds for a WTB "like new" DFX with the 950 coil. I saw an ad for one for $700 that was removed because the seller did not follow the rules. Unless you are primarily hunting open, low trash areas, the 950 coil or smaller would be the better buy. I don't understand why White's would put a 12" conical coil on a high performance detector when most users would seldom use it in favor of a smaller conical or DD style detector. The DFX is over 10 years old but still very competitive in the right hands.

Keep in mind that a top of the line V3i, slightly used, with transferable warranty, could cost you less than a new DFX 300.

I just purchased a new DFX from Kellico for less than a thousand. I also own a V3, but prefer the DFX and its smaller coil. I'm having alot of good fortune with the DFX on Florida beaches. I think you'll be pleased with the DFX.

YES YES the DFX is still a great machine, I have many machines and still use the DFX for parks ,the 15 and 3 freq are a great combo, you have plenty choice of coils, there is a learning curve, but once mastered you will find plenty of coins-jewelry.

Jason, to anwer your question. Yes, the DFX can compete and once learned, it will do better than many of the new detectors. I have had three of them since 2004 and I made great finds with all of them. People have knocked the performance of the factory programs, but I think they work great. You won't find 9 inch deep coins in the factory coin program, but you will find all coins within the first 6 inches. I have finally got my DFX setup that I think will compete with just about any detector made. I have always said that if I am confident that I am not leaving any coins in the ground when I pass my coil over them, I know I have a good detector. I feel that way with my DFX. I have played around with hunting in a single frequency and after a short adjustment period, it is a quality option. I have tried many of the many settings that I ignored with past DFX's and I am now finding more coins than ever. If you are a park- school hunter, I would recommend a DD coil. You can set the DFX for a slow sweep and pick trash out of some very trashy spots. I think this particular ability is the single most important aspect for any detector today. It seems that my better finds come from spots where coins are in very close to trash. The disc patterns and the filters, sweep speeds, and etc. of the DFX will allow you to find coins with trash in the same plug. I would not buy a new DFX, but would buy a nice used one, just as Larrry said. Now for the kicker. You will not find a better built detector than any E series Whites. I have had many of them and the only problem I ever had was with a coil and to be honest, I didn't even know it was bad. Custome service is second to none. They are almost perfectly balanced which allows old farts like me to swing all day. Yes I am a believer! R.L.
