How much depth lost w/8 inch coil

Tim,Ive been using the Minelab 8"(more like 7 1/2")coil and have been very happy with the depth.I dont find any great loss.Ive picked up quarters on the beach at 12"plus and seem to go as deep on dirt as my stock 10.5".The only difference I really noticed is the weight, its so much lighter..Its a hot little coil. If you have a need, definately pick one of them up(either minelab or sunrays).Ralph

I have the SunRay 8 inch coil and I really like it a lot. It's light, it pinpoints excellent, sees through trash incredibly well, it's very stabile (I can usually run in 32 manual) and it really seems to like silver. I've never run a scientific test or anything but I would guess that I lose about 20%-25% in depth with it as compared to the stock 10.5 inch coil. I know some people will disagree with me on that statement but I have recovered dimes at about 12 inches with the stock 10.5 inch coil but the best I've seen with the 8 inch coil was Darrell when he nailed a seated liberty dime at 9 inches. But it is a great coil and it is rapidly becoming my favorite all around coil. I would definitely recommend that you get one. Good luck!

Although I have gotten coins at the 10-11 inch mark with the 8 inch coils, they arent near as loud as with the 10, I would guess on a max depth issue in fair ground conditions you lose about 3 inches on a coin sized target.. However on the other hand I have also gotten coins at the 6 inch range and less that the 10 inch missed... So what I do is use the 8 till the site is fairly clean then back with the 10 to go for any deeper ones.. and dont forget the 5 incher.. cause that gets stuff the others miss as well in high iron and between rocks and trees.. jury still out on WOT on land... but then again I dont know if my sites I can use it actually have anything in the 15 inch or deeper range the 10 inch stops at...
