how much deeper is the tejon vs the vaquero?

hey there thinking about buying tejon and i'm currious to or here how much deeper the tejon is compared to the vaquero, please post your opinions and how big of a learning curve the tejon has.

My Tejon air tests about 1.5 inches deeper on quarter, dimes and pennies and about 2 inches deeper on nickels than my Cibola.

I have dug targets at depths that correspond to the difference in air tests. The Tejon hits real hard on nickel, brass and lead. Most of my hunting is not very difficult ground as far as mineralization. Others have indicated that depth drops off more on the Tejon in difficult, mineralized ground ... but I can't really speak to that aspect.

The Tejon is a lot more chatty ... especially when running in the VCO mode. I run it all the time now in VCO mode. When I go back to the Cibola after using the Tejon, I find I get a little impatient at first with it so quiet ... then it all starts coming back as to what the Cibola is saying.

Not difficult to learn the Tejon ... just takes a little while to adjust to the difference in sounds. If I am in trashy areas, the Cibola does pretty well with the standard coil ... I find I need the 5.75 inch coil to work around a lot of trash with the Tejon.

I am presume the Vaquero pretty much tracks what the Cibola does.

well if that's the case then well i guess i'll stick to my vaquero, it seems to be the all round do all machine i guess, thanks again TVR.

If you super tune the Vaquero all the way (threshold all the way and the sensitivity in the red) it gets chatty also, But it reads deep. Bill in Texas

Ditto what bill says, I don't use the supertune feature unless I'm hunting in a non trashy area or back in the woods relic hunting. Way to chatty when tabs or other junk is involved. You can run the sens at max and not bring the threshold up all the way which gives the depth some boost but seems to keep the chatter down. Not as good as bringing both up to max setting if your looking for max depth though.

I've had two tejons and two vaqueros in the past. Now I'll I have are the vaqs. I hunt mainly in allmetal (95% of the time) and grew to hate the tejon in all metal. the threshold seemed to wander constantly. Plus, in all metal, when I could get the threshold stabilized, I could not tell any difference in depth between the two in my civil war test garden.

hope that helps

well thanks for the input mike, how deep can you get for say on like a jar lid, I plan to use mine for hunting cashe's, that's why i'm trying to get the info

from my experience the tejon is deeper then the vaquero and it does better with coins on edge, im continually amazed at the stuff i found at my so called worked out sites. i think scully descibed it best the tejon is like a vaquero on steroids. clad king
