How many of you folks have found silverware rings while metal detecting? ...............

Kelley (Texas)

These rings were popular back in the 1960's and were often associated with the Hippies of the time. If you do any research, you will discover that this type of poor man's ring was in use hundreds of years ago, often used as a wedding ring. They are neat to find, but often folks will discard them as junk rings because they do not know what they are. While some folks will still make them from old silverware, most are now commercially manufactured.

Pictured below are three silverware rings that I have found. The top ring is a home made ring and the bottom two are commercially manufactured rings. The best places to find silverware rings would be school yards, parks with creeks flowing through them, and old concert sites. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

Thanks for the post, Kelly. Over the years, I have found quite a few silverware items. Most of them were just the handle or a piece of a handle. As I recall, all were found in lawn areas. I thought they were simply lost spoons and forks that had been hit by a lawnmower. Since most of them were wadded up it never occurred to me that they might have been fashioned into rings. Will pay a lot closer attention to any I find from now on. BTW, nice pictures.

Good fortune

Very cool rings, thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the informative post Kelley. This is EXACTLY the type of info that a new detectorist like myself can use but would never have without years of experience. We appreciate you letting your hard earned knowledge benefit us all. Hope your next hunt is one for the books. HH
