How many miles(a month) do you people rack up on your chariot in pursuit of your metal detecting hobby???

Detector Man, I guess you could say that my finds don't add up to what I spend on gas. It's funny that you brought this subject up today because this morning as I was driving the 15 miles to hunt a park, I thought the price of gas does not jusify what I find. I drive an economy truck(four cylinder Ranger) and I can get 25 mpg. I used about 3.75 in gas and I found 1.35 in clad with two wheats included. My net loss was 2.40, but the fun I had was worth every penny. You never know when the next big find might happen, at least thats what I tell my wife. I drive about 2500 miles a month during detecting season compared to about 1000 normally. This is still the best hobby in the world. R.L.

I generally hunt close to home, due to time constraints. Most of the time I could ride a bike so the money is minimal. I do agree with RLOH as this being the best hobby. I do know for sure that I spend a lot less money than anyone playing golf and never get as upset when doing this.

I had friends/relatives who questioned whether this hobby would be "cost effective" when i started detecting ... I tried to explain that this was a "HOBBY" not a money making enterprise...they nodded their heads in agreement but i know they tought i was nuts......kinda like hitting the little white ball and chasing it right after you hit it....oooops...

Do fishermen buy big boats, motors, trailers and fishing gear TO SAVE MONEY ON THE FISH THEY EAT?????
