How many here use the SunRay probe ?

I like the depth (for a probe) plus the fact that it's always with the detector.

I use one on my XL Pro:clapping: What I like most about it is "I can't lose it" :clapping:

Exceptional depth and target ID through the probe, can't loose it, great resale price, probe is waterproof, exceptional company behind the product.

[size=large]and now equal time for the hand held.
more and more hunters are turning to the garrett pro pointer. all metal non-motion. a test is on you tube between the sun-ray probe , garretts probe and the pistol probe.
the sun-ray comes in last as far as depth it also adds weight to your machine. some must consider that some don't. the garrett has a radius of about 1 1/2 to 2 " all around the stem. the sun-ray uses just the tip area and doesn't go as deep. if there's metal around the garrett it will sound off. the pistol probe is a pi detector. most feel it's too big and bulky. it does have a following. just not as much as the others. if you slow down a little and mind your stuff you may not lose your probe. it may depend on how you carry it. they can fall out. the sun-ray can't fall out. these are the choices one must make for ones self. i myself can't use it. i must reduce weight so i chose the hand held. it works for me very well.
i would recommend you visit the sun-ray forum and see the pro's and con's of the probe. haven't found a separate forum for the garrett probe and haven't looked for the pistol probe. most other hand held seem to be throw aways. don't work long before you're buying another. the sun-ray does have a very big following. you should be able to do good research before buying.

I like cursing at it when I forget to flip the switch back...lol
Seriously though...I like the depth, the fact that I do not have to carry a probe in my pouch to get lost, and the tones...
Also the durability and ease of cleaning...

HH,

It sounds like you might have a problem with your SunRay or you don't have your sensitivity turned up when using it. On all of the SunRay probes I have used or evaluated, I have consistently had 3 1/2 to 4 inches in depth with them because all of the power of your detector is used when pinpointing with the SunRay. The Garrett and Pro pointer especially, I have had interference with the detectors while using the handheld pinpointers, but the handheld units do have their place in the hobby, just not my first choice.

Two other points not mentioned, the batteries never go dead ( as long as your detector works ) and you never have to look for your probe. Most likely you put the detector next to where you are digging, thats where the probe is...all the time.

It would find a target in a basketball sized plug with ease.
I now have one on my DFX and i'm not impresed at all.
I have to jist 'bout touch the target with it to git it to work.

I'm not impressed with it's performance on my IDX-Pro either.
I bot both probes used.
Maybe they got issues

Sorry, I looked at the U tube video and all I can say is it is sad that people who don't know what they are talking about shouldn't make videos. Also all that is on the internet is not true.

No SunRay probe that is working will only get 1" of depth. When he made that statement I knew I didn't have to watch any more. he was using it on a Minelab and they love the SunRay on their forum. I have both the Pro Pointer and a SunRay on my V3i. They are both great pin pointers. If you know how to super tune the Garrett they are both very DEEP. I don't need either to be deeper.

I don't have any of the three but I talk to so many who are beside themselves in appreciating the DX-1 and the Pro pointer. (Some say one shouldn't exclude the other.)

I had 4 inches plus on my DFX. Don't forget that the SunRay uses the electronics of your detector, the probe is no more than a one inch coil with a switch box to switch between the coil you are using and the SunRay. I had my GAIN at 4, AC 80 and DC 50 . The Gain and AC is used for the motion mode and the Gain and DC is for All Metal/pinpointing.

as i said in my post...i'm thinkin that i possibly have probe(s) with issues.
They were both purchased used from the forums.

I remember you tellin me in the past that the settings on my DFX will directly effect the probe.
I recently got my DFX back from White's and not only was it out of calibration but the 9.5 was shot.
I haven't had the opportunity to check out the probe again since gttring my DFX serviced and a rep[lacement coil added.

AS for the IDX-Pro.....same results with the Sun-Ray on it..ya hafta allmost touch the target for the probe to work.
The iDX as you know doesn't have the adjustments the DFX has.
I spose i need to contact Ray and have 'em both checked out.

I know what ye sayin. I have used an EX-II ( "tuned') and the SunRay was awesome.
As i said..it would find any target in a basketball sized plug every time !!!!
That probe rocked in that instance !!!

I've found the Sunray on my MXT to be deeper than the Garrett by about twice.

I use the Sun Ray XL-1 probe on my XLT, here are the reasons I totally love it!

It works PERFECTLY.
I am not subject to leaving it at the last hole I dug.
Although it adds a tiny bit of weight (6 oz.), all the GREAT points out weight that small issue.
As far as depth, its perfect (approx. 1-1.5"), I have the XLT for the depth.
I can use the same tones that I'm using on the XLT , or I can switch to pinpoint on the detector and use the all metal pinpoint mode/tone.
I never have to replace the battery since it gets its power from the detector battery.
Last but not least, it IS only hot on the RED tip, making it SO easy to locate the target.

I'm not knocking the other pointers though. My son just bought the Garrett pro pointer and couldn't love it more.

I own the Pistol Probe. It is a pulse type probe and will get an honest 4-6" depth depending on soil conditions and moisture content. When I have gotten permission to hunt in private residences that have really nice turf, I use the Pistol probe to narrow down the pinpointing for a really small plug cut. This of course depends on the amount of trash as the Pistol probe sees it all.

The only drawback to the pistol probe I see is when you have other metal targets in very close proximity to the intended target to dig. When you then attempt to pinpoint you get interferance with these other targets due to the Pistol probes strong signal transmission.

I am contemplating a Garret Pro pointer or the Sun-ray to supplement my Pistol probe.

I use both.... the DX-1 and a hand held pin pointer..... ..And they both work great... No depth issues with the DX-1 ...so far...so good...Happy hunting..:super:

I don't like the fact that the coil is diverted to a switch box then to the detector i prefer a straight shoot to the box. As far for losing your probe just tie a lanyard to the shaft and to the probe......BAM.....there you go
