How Many Here Have More Then One Coil For Their AT Series Machines?

I have two, but plan to add one of the Garrett concentric's either for my Pro or the Max if I decide to go the Max route. HH jim tn

I have two, the factory 8.5" x 11" DD and the 4.5" Super Sniper.

I want to get a bigger one and been thinking of the CORS Giant 15”x17” DD Search Coil for Garrett AT series.
http://corscoils.com/index.php/product/giant

But I was watching a video by the Hoover Boys and he mentions that his NEL Thunder coil did NOT work on his Max but his NEL Storm coil did work.
So between that and I'm not back to work yet  I'm going to wait and see if someone can tell me if the CORS Giant will work on the AT Max.

At around 10:16 of the video he mentions the NEL coils.

I have the 5x8, 8.5x11, 6x9 concentric and the 9x12 concentric. Also have a Nel 5.5x9.5 for my pro, wont work on my Max

I have the 5x8 and NEL Tornado coil for my AT-PRO.

I have 4 for my ATPro. Hoping the NEL Storm will work on the Max, as I'm really leaning in that direction,

New to the AT Max and the whole A T series. I bought the Garrett 5x8 DD before the machine even arrived.. I plan to mount it up this weekend and try my luck at a swimming hole!

I have three but the 5x8" is my all-time favorite.

I have 4 of the 5 Garrett coils; 5 x 8 DD, 8.5 x 11 DD, 6.5 x 8 Concentric, and the 9 x 12 Concentric.

The only Garrett coil I am missing is the 4.5" Super Sniper (which I would like to have). Mostly for highly trashy areas and getting closer to fences/poles, etc. Problem is it definitely does not have the depth that the other coils have.

One thing I HIGHLY recommend is to buy an additional lower shaft so you can very quickly change between your favorite coils without have to go through the procedure of actually removing the coil itself. Just switch out the entire lower part of the shaft with the coil already on it. I have 2 lower shafts that I swap between. Typically I have a smaller coil on one and a larger coil on the other or sometimes a DD coil on one and a concentric coil on the other.

It also helps to make sure that you don't run into the problem of your lower shaft getting 'fused' to the top shaft, usually from getting sand/water in it and not disassembling it and cleaning it out.

Also HIGHLY recommend that you reset your detector whenever you swap out a coil...I have seen it make very little difference sometimes and a HUGE difference other times. I ALWAYS reset mine now whenever I swap the coil.

I have always preferred my concentric over DD's in my soil. Deeper and more accurate ID. Have you put a lot of time on that 6.5 x 8 Concentric? I am thinking of getting one and see how it compares to my 5" x 8" Coil.

I made the rookie mistake of leaving my nylon coil bolt at my vehicle after taking the 8 x 11 DD off. I was planning to use my new 5x8 coil for the first time. I had to break down the machine (AT Max) and pack it into a small back pack so I could more easily mt. bike to the hunt site. Once I arrived (2 miles off road mud fun from the car) , I realized my error. The good news ? well ... the dog still got her run in. I was on a bike not walking, and it was only 2 miles. Fortunately, I found the bolt where I left it at the car.

So.. I think I really like the extra lower shaft option. Are they expensive?

Also.. I really enjoyed using the 5x8 coil.. makes the detector very light weight. TJR

Hi 88SIII,

They are pretty cheap....

You get the lower shaft, complete with the coil bolt, washers, and nut.

The lower shaft w/ hardware cost about $20 with shipping depending on who you buy it from.

Here is where I got mine, new on EBAY;

Hi John,

Sorry about the typo above....that should read; 6.5 x 9 concentric.

5 x 8 DD - Probably have about 450 to 500 hours on this one.
8.5 x 11 DD - Well over a 1000 hours on this one.
6.5 x 9 Concentric - Somewhere between 175 to 200 hours on this one
9 x 12 Concentric - About 400 hours on this one.
