Some of the songs I have done in church are Buddy Jewell's"Help Pour out the Rain/Lacey's Song";"I Love You This Much"-I believe a man called Ricky Wayne(?) sings it;I also do Alan Jacksons"Where were you when the World Stopped Turning"-His tribute to 9/11-I try to do it as close to Sept.11 every year as I can-So we dont forget...A few weeks ago,I did Hank Williams Sr."I Saw The Light";-that REALLY went over very big....I sometimes do a medley of Rock Of Ages,How Great Thou Art,and Amazing Grace-I am supposed to practice with a fellow church-member-I will play guitar, she will sing Battle Hymn Of The Republic"-sometime soon.I have tried writing some of my own gospel songs to play in church, but I havent got that far yet....My wife and I have a "disagreement"over a song I want to do-It is "3 Wooden Crosses"by Randy Travis...I feel it is a great song about redemption;my wife feels it doesnt belong in a church service, because of references to a hooker...opinions,please???and,I just LOVE the song "LONG BLACK TRAIN"BY jOSH TURNER,I THINK HIS NAME IS...i JUST CANT SING THAT LOW,THOUGH....

The preacher can preach right from the Bible and say prostitute.
Go for it! :)

we allready have a wonderfull music ministry goin on and slowly but surely it is growing each month. We have a few extreemly blessed and talented folk dedicated allready.I have to admint tho, i have to pray continualy for the strength to git past my extreem shyness about playin in front o' folk.
About you 9-11 tribute......have you ever heard the song .."There she stands" by Micheal W. Smith ? It is quite heart wrenching and to TO THE POINT !!!!!! I am in the process o' puttin this one together for July bike ride/tribute to our Vets and country. We ride 'bout 2 hours from here and have a big ole lunch and then a service/tribute in a 150 year old christian camp.
About the reference to the hooker......did Jesus turn his back on such sinners ???? Are we not supposed to "break away" from our usual flock, our "comfort zone", and go to the lost ones ??? What in your heart do you believe Jesus would do in a time like this ?
Oh yeah, if yer a picker, try this........do Amazing Grace to the tune of House o' the rising sun. They fit together perfectly !!!
Let Jesus be yer guide.

OK Then-3 Wooden Crosses this Sunday it is!-It works out good,my singing-I am also lay-reader this Sunday...As for being shy about singing in front of people;I do get a little nervous-But,after singing in bands and the like,I have heard if any performer is over-confident and not at least a little nervous before peforming;he-or she-should NOT be up there doing it...BECAUSE,they think too much of themselves-It is the "LOOK AT ME"syndrome-and,yes-I have had it ....Now,I know I am performing for, and worshiping, the Creator,in my own way-and,it is a good feeling...:thumbup:

after our move. So far we don't know any churches up in the Houghton Lake area so we may have to start a home church program for awhile.

Sherry plays piano (has a masters I think in Music) and her and Casey have beautiful voices. Casey is taking singing lessons to. I think I can conduct services. I've filled in many a time for a minister who just wanted a day of rest. No longer an ordained minister but I know what needs to be done and when.

So who knows we may start a church up north or maybe find a church who can use Sherry and Casey's talents. Sherry used to teach music (piano) and I know Sherry plays other instruments too.

I've tried my luck at music - banjo, guitar, harmonica, jews harp - and the best I have done is Taps on the harmonica. About knocked out my teeth with the jews harp and even though I liked the banjo over the guitar I just never 'fingered' them out long enough to play a full song. Guess self-teaching isn't my forte'.

Your choices of songs sound great and I love them all. Randy Travis is a favorite of mine - have a video of him and his other musicians in church playing these songs - including Long Black Train and Three Wooden Crosses.

May God continue to bless your talents.

Everybody seems to like the way I play and sing(Hmmm..... are they just being nice?of course,if that was it ,they wouldnt be asking me back to do more-right???)In any event ,I am doing 2 songs for prelude this Sunday-first;Craig Morgan's"Thats What I Love About Sunday";and....because there is always the inevitable late comers-they complain that they didnt hear me-I will do Buddy Jewell's"Help Pour Out The Rain/Lacy's Song" for the second one...The music part of worship at our church-well,to put it nicely-needs help...I have had people tell me there that my music is just what they need in that church...I dont know if it is people being self-conscious or shy or whatever;BUT,you can hardly hear ANYBODY singing the hymns...:shrug:I just tell everybody that my talent is a gift from the LORD;and HE knew my church needed help in that area-I believe that is why He sent me there...As a matter of fact, some people have told me if I played and sang thru out the whole service, that would be just fine with them...:lmfao:my reply is:No--:please::angel::thumbup::clap::cool:we are not here for a concert -We are here to worship THE LORD-and I am just His slave, being put to work where He sees fit....(but,I will admit-it IS :wiggle::bouncy:nice being used in such a way)....
