How many have trouble reading the display on the AT PRO???

Or is it just my particular unit. Black numbers and letters against dark gray is a dumb color scheme to begin with and the letters and numbers are so small I have to wear reading glasses to read the display which is a pain with headphones. I know others who have the same problem. They must have gotten a real deal from China on this face plate. HA.. Is there any thought at all for the end user when they are dreaming these things up?? My display is so smoky I can't read it in anything but bright light. This is a good reason for a backlight on this machine. Whatever happened to black on white or red on white or anything but black on gray. GEEZ!!!

Well whoever was in charge of the physical design wasn't on top of their game thats for sure, but I sure like the way it hits gold.

I don't have a problem with the display but then all I look at is the TID numbers.

Those I can see okay. The rest is just a blur. They need to include some serious users in the design of these things. I usually get a prototype to test and the ability to comment on any needed changes. Didn't get squat this time and waited forever just to get a production unit. The display would have been my first gripe.

I don't have a problem with it being too small or the colors, I can see it just fine with my regular glasses on, but since I wear polarized prescription sunglasses most of the time, it's display pretty much goes away. It's not just the AT either. I can't read gas pumps, credit card machine displays at the stores, ATM's.. all disappear. I have to peep over the top of my glasses to see them.

I look at main TDI number and go buy the sound.I think its main strength is purely audio in that regards. concerning the screen.

Chineese faceplates:cry: Would be an extra killer selling point on the Pro if it had a back light , All the good reviews on the Pro and the little bit of negative have surfaced , but if there was a backlight on this production , man what a little smoker it would be in review, just that little additive of a backlight to this affordable machine would make so many people happy.

I use the same principal on the AT Pro that I use with the Scorpion. Set up the unit to my own specs and use my ears. Numbers can easily be fooled. I have never used numbers before, so I do fine without them. But, I know that some people swear by them.....

And all in all it should add about 10$ to the cost considering they would get the parts for about 300% less than retail... Its bad when you see cheap Chinese knockoffs with nice bright backlights...Also if I can buy a 3$ watch with one I think a 600$ metal detector should have one...at that, a waterproof metal detector...if not just for underwater use the backlight would be a great addition.

It's things like this that kill me...its like they hold out in order to keep these things as selling points..The AT has me sold on its depth and audio, the backlight wont stop me from buying one, but comon!...it makes me wanna wait to see what they will come out with next rather than just out right buying the AT.. I agree abt the hard to see issue. The only real reason that I bought the AT was for the water hunting. So I hear that is's gonna do just fine in that respect. Anyone of us might hit a Homerun with finding a little bling which would make me forget all abt the faceplate.

I keep hearing the same four complaints on the AT PRO:

1. Screens hard to read / no backlight

2. Wobble in the shaft due to a lack of camlock

3. Overly sensitive coil prone to falsing

4. Arm cuff too short

I'm sure Garrett is taking notes. Personally, I think if they had done more field testing prior to mass manufacture, a lot of this would likely have been caught. Hopefully the AT PRO 2.0 will address. :)

From what little I have used my At Pro inside, I have not found any problem reading the display. Have not tried it outside under any real world conditions so cannot comment on that. However, backlit displays have costs in more than one way. First the display itself is higher cost. The bigger cost in a lot of ways is that the battery life is going to be less. This is one reason I would have preferred a few more tones. However the tones the At Pro does have is a huge improvement over what I was using and was a factor in deciding to get one.
