How many has had rotator cuff surgery?

Hi everyone, Just curious how many members here has had to have rotator cuff surgery? Unfortunately I am one member that has to have it done:cry: I have until the first week in April to detect and get things in order. At least the weather here in northern Michigan is above average and beautifully. I was going to try to wait as long as possible but after two detecting trips and the pain in swinging and digging I think I made up my mind to get it over and done with. I will be laid up for about 8 weeks so keep posting all them great finds as I will be getting my detecting fix through the forums:thumbup: Thanks all and HH.

No rotator cuff surgery, but 2 back operations. Sorry to hear that you will be out of action. Hopefully, the 8 weeks will fly by and you'll have the rest of the summer to catch up. Good luck with the surgery and wish you a quick recovery.

had the surgery but i lucked out it was on my off hand. maybe you can switch hit and get some detecting time in good luck

Right shoulder done about 12 years ago. Arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, torn rotator cuff and three bone chunks floating around. When I do it, I go whole hog! The eight weeks might be a little optimistic but then I was quite a mess. Couldn't even sign my name. The physical therapy isn't fun but really will help so follow it through! I still have to be careful bit with my trusty Swingy Thingy I can hunt most of the day.

Good Luck On The Surgery

I Feel Your Pain

But It Will Be So Much Better Afterwards and I Know You Will Wonder Why You Waited So Long

Thanks all. Rolladex, Waiting until fall was the original plan but it is effecting my job and overall day to day activity to much to wait. I live in northern michigan so winter is not a option between loading the wood stove and cutting wood. I'm just going to bite the bullet and do it.

That hits home with me as I have had shoulder issues on and off for 3 years. When ever it gets too bad and I get ready to have it looked at it gets better? I can't blame it all on detecting as years swinging a hammer doing construction and bench presses at the gym did it in. As long as I can live with it I will put it off as I have friend's who have had the surgery and are never the same or sometimes not much better. But this was a while ago so technology has come a long way.

I'll say one thing for the surgeon I had. He kept telling me that surgery should be my last option, so many want to rush right in. Went through cortizone, PT and all sorts. Saved my left shoulder but the right one ended up on the table. Still, having one done beat doing both. I've learned alot about the things I can and can't do. Many years of abuse as a shipwright, martial arts and other crazy stuff finally caught up with me!

I can empathise with you I am one month into rehab for hip replacement, still have 6 to 8 weeks to go although I am ahead of schedule. Lot of pain in rehab but do what they tell you and be persistent in doing it. I can walk without cane now but still carry it at this time just in case I hope to ditch it soon too. I can tell you first two weeks were brutal but I am glad I had it done. The pain that was causing me to limp badly and not sleep is now gone. I still have some pains but they are getting better, be strong and it will be fine.

Had six back surgies with the last being an artificial disc. Shoulder surgery 25 yrs ago. I do have a problem carrying the Tball shovel. I think the neck may have some issues causing the left shoulder pain. But ... I'm still hunting because I can push throught the pain for this great hobby. HH, MIke
P.S. backs 100% now!

Hang in there.... I just had total knee joint replacement on my right knee. Yeah the post op pain was brutal, but only for a week or so. I have 110% flexability back after only 3 weeks, no pain in the joint but muscles and tendons are a bit tender. Going to have left joint replaced on June 11th...I can hardly wait.YIKES! Here we go again. I went 20 years walking bone to bone. It's amazing what a bit of Tordol and Vicodin can do to relieve pain. Follow through with recommended therapy and then some on your own, and you'll be good as new sooner than later. The best advice I got from someone else who went the route I am going through, told me to go the max till it hurts, then give it a little more oomph.......NGE

I can feel your pain brother, I had mine done about 20 years ago, the doc was giving me cortisone shots into the joint, but because of the work I was doing I ended up having the surgery, I heeled up pretty good, but couldn't throw a ball anymore. I found one of those harness that mothers carry babies in on their chest, cut the part out that holds the baby, and hooked a bungy cord to it,and I'm able to go all day. Good luck to you, hope you heal up fast and get back out there swinging.

The advice you received on therapy, is exactly what my dad told me he did. The person who told you this, is his name "Howard"?

Had the surgery done back in 1993 after a fall while chasing my dog out of my newly planted potatoes. After all the time lost from work and the pain I lived with for six months I decided the dog can dig all the potatoes he wants. My decision to get the surgery came more from the loss of strength in that arm then anything else.Seems to be fine now, except for some mussel pain in cold damp weather, Rick IL

Just had back surgery 7 weeks ago. Fortunately it was successful. Many times they are not. For all of you with bad backs/shoulders etc. please take care of yourselves, seek medical care if you can afford it, and even if its a hassle, use items like Doc's Swingy Thingy or go to a lighter machine. Chronic health issues never resolve themselves on their own. They just get worse if not attended to.

I've had two rotator cuff repairs to right shoulder and one to left shoulder. Still swinging my ETrac and when my right shoulder gets tired I switch to the left. After you have the repair it's very important to slowly stretch the arm with no bouncing. My range of motion increased greatly and I even suprised the Dr on my first checkup.
