How many halves and dollars have you found?

Hello guys I have been MD'ing for more than 25 years. Over these years I have been lucky to find 7 silver half dollars (5 walkers and 2 Franklin's) and one clad Kennedy half. I still have not found a silver dollar, but this year I was lucky enough to find my first Susan B. Anthony dollar. Dollar coins are not use much were I live. I was wondering what everybody else has found?

John

No dollars except for modern ones.
One school I hit gives up more than its' fair share. Of the 7 I have found, 5 have come from this grassy lawn.
Only a couple fifty cent pieces to my credit and nothing older than mid 70s'.

For halves, too many to remember in 35-ish years. They're common on beaches after a good storm erodes. I remember getting 6 or 7 in a single day one time, during some storms during the winter of '97-98. (46 total silver coins and over 100 wheaties that hunt).

As for silver dollars, I'm at about 12 -ish.

No beaches here in Western Pennsylvania just land hunting, only snow and frozen ground in the winter. Would love to seach a ocean beach after a storm.

I was hunting a baseball diamond at a park in a town close to me,using the Omega and the 11 inch dd coil.ground balance around 58,sensitivity at 85 and disc at 16 not notching anything else out and in four tones mode. This was tuesday morning this week when i got a nice but soft high tone repeatable sound that was pegging in the high 90s and showed depth of about 8 inches.Cut a nice plug and started to to go deeper using the pro pointer to try and find the area and kept digging down to about 7 or 8 inches when finally saw the edge of a coin showing out of the dirt.I could tell it was a thicker coin so slowly removed and pulled on the edge and out popped a shiny 1952 Franklin siver half dollar in very nice shape. This is my first silver half of the year and the only half i have found in the past few years since taking the hobby back up again. How nice it was to find big silver for they dont seem to come around that often. The teknetics Omega has found me so many coins the past year and a half its truly a great detector and thanks to First Texas and that great crew there.Good luck to all of You and keep hunting theres still silver out there to be found.......Markmac

In the two years since I took-up the hobby again, I have found 2 - Walkers, 2 - Franklins, 1 - '68 Kennedy and 2 - Clad halves ..

I have only found 1 dollar, but it was a Morgan and I was super pumped. One walker half, one 40% Kennedy half, and one clad half. This my 5th year of the addiction.

I have been detecting since 1988 or so. If your asking how many silver coins.....less that 10.
I hunt local parks.....and do not often find old silver....this year I have found 1 indian head penny 1 mercury dime and an old badly worn V nickel. Old coins are not something found in the areas I hunt much. Since I am limited were I go by a bicycle and in Ca I live in a town with a rather large detecting club.

I have found 1 B anttony silver dollar no half in 20 years.

9 barber halves, over 100 Walking liberties, 4 Franklin and about 15 Kennedy clad. One 1922 silver dollar, 14 Sacagawea, and numerous other ones including Canadian.

With that said, 4 Barber, all but about 6 walkers and ALL the other ones EXCEPT one I found by the clubhouse of our local high school football stadium were found underwater. The other 5 Barber were found in one of my favorite places in Salt Lake City where I found my first gold coin.

I have been detecting since 1997.

Yep I always believed that water hunting is the way to go. I am going to give it a try sometime.

I started detecting in 1972 and up until I retired in 2006 I had found about 2 dozen halves and 1 silver dollar, as I recall. Since I retired in 06, I have found 9 silver halves, 1 40 % Kennedy and 2 clad halves, 2 silver dollars and 7 or 8 Susan B's and Sacagawea dollars. HH jim tn

4 Sacagawea Dollars, 1 Jefferson Commemorative Dollar, 3 Kennedy Half, 1, Walking Liberty half, 2 Barber Half, 1 Counterfeit Barber Dollar. Would really like to find a Franklin and of course a real Silver Dollar. CO

osgood it was a specail day for me for sure on tuesday finding that 1952 Franklin Half, im sure in time your Franklin will come to you as hopefully a Walking Liberty or Barber Half may come my way.Best of luck to You on your hunt for more silver...Markmac

10 months detecting and 1 x '68 Kennedy 1/2 dollar. Unusual thing about this find is that I live in New Zealand.......

(It's got a small hole through it so must have come of a chain from a tourist).

Yep I am sure you will find a Franklin half. The best thing about metal detecting is you never know what you will find. I would love to find a Barber half though.

The next day, I hit the signal, and felt for sure it was, it was a JFK..maybe todays the day! I found a lot of dollar coins last year, over 30 of them on the beaches and totlots and sports fields, this year only about 15..whats up with that? Heres a picture of a JFK gold plated half I found last year, it sure made my heart jump!

I've found 10 -12 modern dollars - presidents and sacajewas including 3-4 canadian loonies and 3 Toonies (2$). 3 or 4 halves - modern clad. These in general parks, tot lots etc. In years past I've picked up a lot of Silver halves and the occasional silver dollar in seeded club hunts, but as the price of silver has risen and as people began hoarding or selling their silver, those offerings have declined.

John, I sure wish folks would give at least a rough idea of "where I live" when they post. I have no clue if you're in a populated area or sparse place.

I'm working on the tail-end of my 47th year of detecting. In the last half of the 1960's and thru a period from about '78 to '83, silver coins were aplenty, especially in the first part. The more people got into the hobby, the fewer older coins (and silver coins) you could find. In the '68 to '74 period I maybe averaged 1-2 silver dollars a month, and anywhere from 2 to 8 silver halves a week, all depending upon where I hunted.

I got my last silver dollar in April of 2010, and the two before that were in April and July of '99. Silver halves still come along, just not frequently. Nothing like in the "good old days," unless you get really creative (or lucky). By 'creative' I am mainly referring to doing some research to locate old-use sites and gain access because they are on private property (like old resorts or picnic groves), or you find an out-of-the-way place that hasn't been hunted (or at least not hunted very well).

I recall about '83 I had promoted the idea of hunting more of the ski slopes to our detecting group in northern Utah. Several people made an effort to go hit every resort possible because when many ski areas were first opened it cost about 50
